Best Beginners Kit
    #3927747 - 03/16/05 10:21 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

Hello,

I know most people here believe in building their own stuff, but can somebody please tell me where I can buy the best beginners kit to start growing from start to finish? I am not mechanically inclined and have never grown anything, so I need a really easy kit (money is no object) that requires little work on my part. Also, what is the most economical place to buy pre-sterilized jars from?

sorry but youll at least have to put a little work in if you want it to be worth your time, and i also agree its way too easy and saves way too much money to not do it yourself(IMO). :peace:

My friend bought a kit from Smart Botanics in the Netherlands. It wasn't over priced, and it worked. However, after the experience he came to the conclusion that it would have worked better had the kit been nothing more than the spore syringe and the printed tech, and he had done everything else himself.

A kit will not provide *everything* you need.

It will not provide an incubator. Not necessarily critical, but a properly functioning one can accelerate the process considerably.

It will not provide a fruiting chamber. This *is* necessarily critical. You will not be able to provide adequate humidity/moisture without one.

Do yourself a favor. Print out the PF Tek from this site, as well as, I think, "A Simple Casing Tek" for casing PF style cakes. The PF Tek is the most dead-bang sure-fire way to get a ready to fruit substrate/cake that doesn't require that you have or use a pressure cooker. It talks about fruiting chambers and gives you three fruiting techniques at the end. With the "Simple Casing Tek" you will have four options for fruiting you substrate/cakes.

Then check out the Shroomery Sponsors to find someone to send you a spore syringe.

Everything else can be purchased cheaper by you, than by paying someone to do it for you, AND YOU WILL GET BETTER RESULTS.

The question isn't "Are you mechanically inclined?", but, rather, "Can you follow directions?".

And, honestly, I don't see that this takes a lot of effort. A lot of patience, maybe, but not effort.

Do yourself a favor. Before making a decision, read any of the basic teks on this page: http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23019 Then ask yourself if you can do it. They are so easy. Then, if you STILL don't want to do it yourself, visit the sponsor page http://www.shroomery.org/sponsors.php - some of them have pre-built grow kits. You'll be cheating yourself of most of the fun if you do that, though...

Some people just don't want to build stuff...that is fine.

We have several Sponsors/Vendors that sell spore syringes and pre-sterilized jars.

http://www.shroomery.org/sponsors.php

Check them out and see which one sounds good to you.

You will need an incubator and fruiting chamber...though.

If you need some help...come back and we will be more than glad to help you.

good luck!~

Umm, i a little embarressed to admit this, i bought a kit online about a month ago. 30 bux off of ebay. Got 12 half pint jars, a huge bag of perlite, four small tupaware boxes for casing, a bag of casing mix, and a large 25 gallon sterilite box.

I saw what it I bought, how easy it is to do it yourself, and went out and imdiatly bought a presurre cooker from a thrift store for 6 bux's a big bag o' verm, a bunch of jars and a bunch of big containers with a fish tank heater.

Thats all you really need, i mean i got some other stuff to, but thats the bare bones. And I got all that stuff around the 45 dollar mark, and i got SO MUCH MORE.

Start yourself off with the PF-TEK, or PF_TEK for simple minds. Its so easy. Kinda pisses me off that in my area no one ever has shrooms, and after all these years, its so easy to actually grow.
