I Need A Cactus Identification. Hoping To Be San Pedros...
    #3910488 - 03/13/05 06:59 AM (11 years, 8 months ago)

A friend and I found some cactus today and noticed it resembled the San Pedros Cactus. I was wondering if anyone would be able to confirm our observations from some photo's I took. Thankyou.

Cereus jamacaru.
they seem old, the youngsters have spines.
but they're a pretty plant and should be a good grafting stock.
gives fruits and the dried flowers have cardiotonic proprieties in folk medicine.

Theres gotta be at least one person a week in this forum who thinks that a cereus is a pedro or peruvian torch....maybe this common misidentification should be added to the FAQ or something?

I really hope that you guys didn't steal that cactus from someones yard or anything...it seems like it would have been a nice specimen...really a shame to see people butchering such cacti in the misconception that they're hallucinogenic!

Heres a tip - buy some San Pedro seeds or cuttings, and grow your own!!! It will be a much more rewarding experience than ripping them off from somewhere.
