Is this a Dream???
    #3887150 - 03/08/05 02:13 PM (11 years, 8 months ago)

But if it's a dream, why should we care at all? If it is a dream, we should better work towards making a good dream rather than a nightmare. Meanwhile, we could strive to find out what it all really is and means, where we come from and why we are here, and who we are and what we are meant to be--and not settle for any two bit clich? or sound bite, or even a mere adage such as "it is all just a dream." For who can prove that with certainty? What does that adage even mean?

My advice is to recognize the inter-woveness of us all--and not just we humans--and to get involved, become better informed and active, and get engaged. There is just no sitting back. We are the ancestors of the generations to come; it is up to us what they shall inherit, and we must do our damnedest not to make not harder for them through our blindness and selfishness.

Ancient wisdom tells us:
"Row, row, row your boat,
Gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream."

Keep rowing is the first part. We have to keep on keeping on in life, doing what we can--our best, even, assuming we're up to it--and let things take their course as well. Gently down the stream, we flow, we float, we paddle, steer, and redirect. But we can't really get back upstream, although we can try. There is little use in always going against the grain, resisting, fighting the flow, which can be just another form of clinging and attachment--although sometimes it may be necessary and appropriate, even called for, in the interests of one and all. You may feel out of the great flow, but it always flows right through the middle of your life, and through you too. You may feel far from It, but rest assured that it is never apart from you. Thus joy rises each morning, each moment......

Norwegian National Anthem -1'st vers-

---
NORWEGIAN LYRICS
---
Ja, vi elsker dette landet,
Som det stiger frem,
Furet, v?rbitt, over vannet,
Med de tusen hjem.
Elsker, elsker det og tenker
P? v?r far og mor
Og den saganatt som senker
Dr?mme p? v?r jord,
Og den saganatt som senker
Senker dr?mme p? v?r jord,

---
ENGLISH LYRICS ('free' TRANSLATION)
---
Yes, we are loving this country
As its rising forth,
Rugged and weather-beaten, above the sea,
With the thousand homes.
Loving, loving it and thinking
on our father and mother
And the saga-night that lowers
dreams on our earth,
And the saga-night that lowers
loweres dreams on our earth.

Of course it is a dream. A dream with a physical frame of reference. The dreams you have while asleep have none....but a dream is a dream ...same rules apply waking or sleeping.

Listening to Incubus "Aqueous Transmissions"

I'm floating down a river
Oars freed from their holes long ago
Lying face up on the floor of my vessel
I marvel at the stars
And feel my heart overflow
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Further down the river
Two weeks without my lover
I'm in this boat alone
Floating down a river named 'emotion'
Will I make it back to shore
Or drift into the unknown
Floating down the river
I'm building an antenna
Transmissions will be sent when I am through
Maybe we'll meet again further down the river
And share what we both discovered...
Then revel in the view
Further down the river

Its not a dream at all, you've all got it wrong, its only "like" a dream. Saying its a dream implies that the dream itself exists, but not even that is true, so its only like a dream, like a mirage, like a cloudland, like the relfection of the moon on the waters surface.

It's fun to speculate at this point. Everything being out of reach, for me at least. Only hints and feelings. Maybe the dream exists for the dreamer, who dreams within a dream. Ultimately the dream of ultimate Tao. Dreaming of all possibilities, and all events possible, multi layered, expanding forever. Or not.

Is it my imagination that people are always trying to say something a little bit better or smarter than the person before them?

I think your perception is accurate. Or you are dreaming it.

Hey Icelander.  Don't think I was talking about you just because I spoke after you did.  What I was speaking of spans across many threads, many message boards, many years, I didn't even think of it.

According to you nothing exists....ever. That whole outlook is impractical. Your living in a fantasy world. In order to direct our lives one must have purpose.

How dare you live in a fantasy world,
And how dare you say nothing's real
When that's what you felt.

How impractical would it be
To try and stamp out
Other vivid imaginations?

Assuming nothing is real leaves one in the position where nothing matters. Assuming this is an impractical position for guiding one's life. If nothing mattered then we may as well eat a bullet and make the universe disapear. As for stamping out other people's vivid imagination...if someone is so weak minded that mere words on a screen have a real effect on their psyche then too bad. I am completely sure Sinbad can handle my questions or criticism. This forum is for expressing opinions about philosophical issues and I am not shy to do it.
