Oxygen & Mycelium Growth

I've read that lack of oxygen will slow the colonization process. I was wondering if making holes in the lid to allow air in would speed colonization. These holes could then be covered with a filter which would allow air while keeping out contaminants.

i second the above.

there is speculation that it is actually the buildup of CO2 rather than need for oxeygen, since PF tek has been done in sealed jars (see the website) an updated tek involves allowing air exchange in one way or another and inverting the jars, as CO2 is slightly heavier than air. CO2 buildup will slow the groath process, and in jars ive seen with slow progress, air exchange helps. one reason, may be that it helps exclude anerobic contams.
