Dude chill out. What you copied and pasted is absurd to the extent that I didn't even finish reading it and it's not until the end that you say it's an article from somewhere. Next time try writing an introductory statement explaining what we're about to read. Plus I was at least partially responing to the guy that said:

"Well i agree with what Paw Paw said a while back in OTD, Gays are the downfall of todays society."

So chill out. It's obvious that we share the same view on the issue so don't curse me over some silly misunderstanding.

you are entitled to your opinion. but i believe that ignorant people like you are partially to blame for the downfall of our society. got a problem with elton john, motherfucker?

i'm not gay, but i have a couple friends who are. one has to move out of my state because of his sexual preference, in order to have equal rights. its my OPINION that you're a fucking loser. how about that.

As usual for a post on anti-gay bigotry.

From Wiki:

"In Freud's psychoanalytic theory, reaction formation is a defense mechanism in which anxiety-producing or unacceptable emotions are replaced by their direct opposites. For example, one who is strongly attracted to pornography, but has moral or religious obligations to avoid it, might become a staunch critic of it.

It has been shown that many homophobes have repressed homosexual feelings; this could be an example of reaction formation."

here's what I'd say to the person.

"I wish to counter some of the claims that have been made about same-sex marriage. Others have commented in this newspaper that a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage would be like writing discrimination into our state laws. "

more than that. I'd say it's an invasion of privacy

"Do those people have a problem when we "discriminate" against drunk drivers? "

tell me when two (or more) people of the same sex having sex kills thousands of people a year (like drunk driving) and maybe you'd have an argument.

"We take their license away; isn't that limiting their rights? "

driving isn't a right, it's a priviledge

"Do those same people have a problem when we "limit the rights" of pedophiles? No, of course not."

how do you know?

"All those things are clearly deviations from the norm and are dangerous. "

tell me..what is normal?

" So why then do they ignore the "many dangers" associated with the deviant behavior of homosexuality "

first take out the word deviant. it's called loaded terminology. second, tell me of the dangers

this isn't even debating, it's just a bunch of crap thrown together.

Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

My god how many times do I have to say it.

Although I am personally against gay marriage, I still firmly beleive THAT EVERY HUMAN BEING HAS THEIR INALIEABLE RIGHT TO SEXUAL ORIENTATION WHICH CONGRESS/GOD/ANYONE CANNOT TAKE AWAY.

It is very wrong to treat Homesexuality as an issue like crime, it is human nature.

Alright, my bad. It's easy to not notice people thinking rationally and also having a moral stance. Sorry =(

Well a friend and I did some writing and it ended up in the newspaper, here's what we had to say.

Gay marriage

Many people feel it's important to comment on same-sex marriage, and this includes Mr. Stewart North on Feb. 22. Stewart compared the discrimination allegations regarding same-sex marriage of those to "drunk driving" or "pedophiles." Stewart then states, "Don't interpret this letter as saying that I hate or dislike those who practice homosexuality." All after referencing the NARTH group that uses psychotherapy to brainwash people into believing they are not gay.

Yes, Stewart, you are saying you hate homosexuals. Let's call this anti-gay marriage hogwash what it truly is: Bigotry and separate but equal legislation.

I respect (thought don't agree with) the religious point of believing it is a sin, but does that still doesn't make it right to demand other people follow your religious views and not their own?

If Stewart North and his friends don't want to "practice" homosexuality that is fine, but don't sermonize discrimination like another known group of German zealots. They used the exact same arguments and passed nearly identical legislation regarding homosexuals in the 1930s and 1940s.

I personally believe that the word "God" does not belong in any government-mandated oath, but I also feel that if your faith is critical in your decision-making, I have absolutely no problem if you desire to say "God" as part of any oath.

See what I did there, Stewart? I expressed my views and opinions without requiring you to follow them. Try it, you might sleep at night not worrying about homosexuals "injuring your community."

Let's set options for people in such things. You can say "God" or not, not a requirement, and you can be gay or not, not a requirement. I guess my message here is: Grow up, America.

- anonymous, Pocatello

I would like to address Stewart North's letter to the editor (Feb. 22) and his concerns about gay marriage. Recognizing there are many points to dispute in his letter, I wish to focus on the serious flaws in his argument concerning his view of "discrimination" in regards to limiting an individual's "rights."

Mr. North attempts to equate the discrimination issues in a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage to the legal punishments resulting from drunk driving, drug dealing and pedophilia.

Driving drunk, dealing drugs, and pedophilia are crimes and punishable by law due to the immediate physical threat they pose to others. Homosexuality is not a crime and, despite Mr. North's strong personal feelings, poses no physical threat to society. Suspending or revoking a driver's license is not limiting an individual's rights since driving is not an inherent right guaranteed to all individuals. An examination must be passed for a license to be granted.

Driving drunk poses an immediate threat to the safety of others, not to mention the driver. Drug dealing is not a "right" guaranteed to individuals, it is a criminal action. Research has indicated that illegal drugs can be very dangerous and sometimes even fatal if taken regulary and at high doses.

As to the matter of pedophilia, it is a crime as well and poses an immediate physical threat to the safety and welfare of children. How can you even compare homosexualtiy to something as despicable as pedophilia

Homosexuals are not pedophiles nor are they criminals, as Mr. North's letter might suggest.

The right to engage in a loving commitment between two consenting adults is basic to human rights. The fact that the recognition of this commitment extends only to opposite-sex partners in this country is discrimination.

Why are you personally against gay marriage?

That doesn't make any sense to me.

Being for gay marriage doesn't mean you'd have to marry a man or anything.

Why?

In order for something to be wrong, there has to be something actually wrong with it.

Some sort of negative consequence.
