Self-healing injection sites for all
    #3819082 - 02/22/05 10:27 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

It would seem that every syringe comes with its own self healing injection site.

You probably already see where I?m going with this.

Pull off the plungers and attach them to the lids.

I would inject from the side, thicker part, in towards the center hole.

You could put one in the center with a tyvek filter for grain jars or liquid culture.

You could possibly even put four injection sites for pf jars or whatever.

I haven?t tested this yet, but I think we know they are PCable. The main question I have is the best way to attach them. Maybe super 77 spray adhesive would hold up to sterilization, or silicone. Is it better to attach them to the top or drill a hole to the smallest diameter and put it in like a plug, and silicone around that?

I think it should also be noted that all plungers are not the same. The syringes I use are from rev med (right), they have a nice thick plunger and they?re cheaper too.
The one on the left, I believe, Came off of a b-d syringe and is much thinner all around, but may still work.

To much hassle. You can just use a silicone drop for a self-healing injection port.

Nice idea though.

You could also buy 24 self healing ports here for 2 bucks. Cheaper then them syringes (though they are cheap, thats where I get my syringes too).

I'm not talking about tearing apart new syringes. Just reusing something that was on the way to the trash anyway.

It doesn't seem like to much hassle to just put the plunger on the cap before applying the silicone, and I think one of these will take more injections than the silicone alone.

You gotta buy at lest 5 sets, though; there's a $10 (not including shipping) minimum order. Still $16.95 (S&H incl.) for 120 self-healing injection sites isn't too bad. You could put 4 injection sites on 30 jars for that much. Doesn't say if they are PC safe, though. I'm gonna order some, probably next week, and I'll let y'all know.

I brought its gasketed white screw cap with an attached tear-off seal that, once tightened, has to be broken to be reopened. The tube will be sealed. The tube will be tamperproof. The tube will be a little tricky to pee into....

Here is a 4oz jar that I attached one to with silicone. I plan on using these for liquid culture.

I put silicone all around the hole to try to stop rust.

I stuffed polyfill into a lur lock needle to ease pressure during sterilization. It can also be used for gas exchange periodically. To break up the culture just remove and shake.
