Strange little people in my manure pile

So yea, im heading up to my manure pile to drop off for the pile, and I notice some little people taking up residence in it. They're stems are almost ghostly white, and their caps are dark, grey. They have a little nipple on top, which is the color of flesh. It really does look like a nipple... Oh, its horse crap by the way, if that makes a difference. Any ideas on who they are?

They appear to be little mushroom people :wink: But seriously, any chance of a photo? That would make this a bit easier.

I would gander a guess at your mushroom being of the Inky Cap variety. It's listed in the Mushroom Cultivator (Stamets)as a contaminant and is a result of excess ammonia in the substrate. I've also heard (NOT verified) that these mushrooms are edible although they look far from tasty to me! Take a look at this link...

Yea, no camera, so no photo. Somthing I should work on... As for Zen, yea those are basically what they are. And aye, they are very "inky", and do not look the least bit appealing to eat.

It should somehow inspire some sort of change in the internal process when, much like this post, 95% of new user post in MH form are directly in conflict with forum guidelines. Really rather amazing... Boggles my mind.
