once my sensei was showing the class how to make someone pass out by depressing their carotid arteries. He was demonstrating on me, doing it very lightly, but he held the position so long, because he was explaining it to the rest of the class, that I passed out.

The point being: never piss off your sensei!

shit, I still look over my shoulder whenever I violate the Samurai code, because even though I haven't seen him in years, if sensei caught me, he'd put a whuppin to my backside!

Sensei knows how to make you hurt for days without leaving any marks. Pressure points. Ouch.

Try not to violate S&P Protocol.

Anger such as this comes from attaching your self to your ideas. This is known as being stuck in ego. Is this what your sensei taught you?

"His maximum oxygen uptake due to cardio training is totally unaffected by his fall, now isn't it? "

um... what? what i was saying is that NO MATTER how effecitve or extensive your training program, whatever it may be, a mistake, mishap or random bad luck is always possible.

However, it is totally illogical to take a single example of someone making a mistake performing a certain activity or discipline and then try and use that to cast doubt on the entire sport or method.

For every martial arts master who accidently cuts his student there are several hundred doing it succesfully (which is why this kind of thing is even allowed)

you are using what you call anecdotal evidence...

Boxing is based on competition, where two competitors try to expose the weakness of their opponents at the same time maximize their own strengths. The concentration and tactical intelligence required invokes more "subtleties" than martial art theory can ever hope too.

So do you think that to be egoless we have to supress our emotions? When we arent caught up in attachment to our emotions they appear as just the manifestations of wisdom.

My teachers have taught me anger without agression. All problems of ego arise from attachment, and not the emotions themselves, although i was'nt feeling particulaly angry at the time of writing my previous post.

I do apologize heartily for violating S&P protocol.

oh please god no... looner pops in and the whole thread becomes 'my martial art is better than yours' ive seen it all before.

all martial arts are equal, amazing, but different. Boxing is great, so is kung fu. whoopwoopedee.

the idea that boxing is retarded is ridiculously over simplified, it only looks simple to those who dont know how to watch the delicacies of it.

The statement that boxing is far more subtle than any martial art is just plain stupid.

The word Master is being used much too freely here. No guy that would make a critical mistake and slice open someone's throat is a master. No "sensei" who accidently knocks a student unconcious is a master. Such "masters" are a dime a dozen. I can knock out someone with one blow if I wanted too...big deal...I am no master...just a really big guy.

Relax moonshine, you just turned the thread into "martial vs martial art", I didn't.

Read my post again and realize that competition vs theory is what I was talking about. You can apply it to anything you want.

Ahhh, but in a more egoless state, one is not supressing emotions, certain emotions are not produced in the first place. :smirk:

I would suggest some contemplation and some research into the mechanics of the workings of the mind, the way our minds are programmed, the fact that we are programming our minds in every moment, and how the programs our minds run produce our experience of reality, including how certain programs of the mind (most notably, the illusory sense of self) try to force us to act in certain manners by inflicting negative emotions onto us.

Anger itself evidences a seperation between reality as it occurs, and how one feels that it should occur, a dissatisfaction with reality and what it presents. This doesn't point towards a problem with reality, it points towards a problem with your mind. Reality unfolds as it unfolds, to actually cause oneself to suffer because of it is insanity in its greatest form.

Anger without attachment has the quality of cutting through our delusions to the very essence of our being, to discount it as useless would be severely erroneous, and to say that in a state of egolessness anger and emotions do not occur is just plain nonsense.

I agree with fireworks

emotions are caused by the friction bewteen 'reality' and acceptance

but, of course, this calls into question what 'reality' is, which is why most of us are here

"to say that in a state of egolessness anger and emotions do not occur is just plain nonsense."

I personally disagree

Anything has the quality of cutting through our delusions to the very essence of our being; considering that, I don't understand why we must inflict punishment onto ourselves when reality does not unfold as we personally feel it should to produce that effect. The experience of anger itself points to attachment, whether you include the qualifier "without attachment". Emotion-backed demands point towards a lower level of consciousness, which would lie on the other end of a spectrum from "egoloss".

and to say that in a state of egolessness anger and emotions do not occur is just plain nonsense.

Simply a misunderstanding of what I have proposed, in regards to emotions in general. :smirk:

Anger is a very direct expression which does indeed when manfiested within our dualistic condition point to attachement as its cause. Where did i say that we should punish ourselves?

When we are in a state liberated from our ego created dualistic vision, anger no longer manifests as delusion, it just manifests as pure wisdom.

That is to say when free from the fixation of subject and object, all of our emotions are no longer based on a dualistic perception and simply manfiest as the pure qualifications of our natural condition.

When I was about that age I used to break 2X4's all the time. I would set it on two garbage cans and drop kick it. They break easy using that method. Me and my cousin used to have a blast doing it sometimes be would stack two and break both of em.
