Don't cut yourself!
    #1866686 - 08/30/03 08:40 PM (13 years, 3 months ago)

My cat saw a reflection of the ceiling fan on the window looking out onto the street. He then went nuts and began attacking it. It was an illusion that he could not differentiate from reality.

Some people who post frequently in this forum remind me of my cat. Be careful, You might cut yourself!

I really like your comparison!

I don't want to put anyone down here, but in a place with frequent discussion of this nature..one should definitely be careful as to what they take in and believe as truth.  Although I'm sure most people here are aware of that. I simply take most ideas into consideration, rather than hopping on a bandwagon and believing the truth is the first thing I think I understand..  Truth relies on experience for me..I don't think I could ever believe something 100% until I KNOW undoubtedly it is 100% accurate..  If that makes sense.. =/

Anyway..Good post sirreal

what the cat saw was a "reflection" of the fan. The point is the fan EXISTED! He just aproached it the wrong way, thats what you should be careful of.

Good point.

Though the intented meaning of the original example is still pretty obvious.

Millions are going to war this morning, many many terrorists acting in the illusion of doing God's will... they cannot differentiate from reality.

And, some people around here like to not slightly understand other ideas that are beyond their realm of sight, but yet they bring all sorts of "arguements" disproving what they have not the slightest clue of...

Having enough fun stabbing at that shadow, sirreal? I also see that as the perfect analogy...
Peace.

The war on terrorism is pretty funny to me. Because its seems both sides think they are doing "god's" work. Or atleast thats their explination to the people.

Oh wait.. that was off topic, lol. ummm..... yeah doesent the majority of this country live under an illusion anyway?????

maybe the cat knew it was only a reflection and just wanted to play.. maybe not. but he accomplished what he set out to do, whether it was illusion or "real".. it doesnt matter to him (or her) any more than it matters to people. why everything has to turn into a discussion about terrorism ill never know.. people are going to kill eachother no matter what, for reasons real or imagined; so in the end it makes no difference what they see or what is "real". "reality" is only an excuse. and the DEMON lives.. has anyone seen a cat go after a moth or spider? theres a certain innocence to it, the cat's intent isnt dark. (although i always pull Whitten away when he tries to kill insects) "people" on the other hand understand death, at least more than a cat anyway; and their boredom and longing lead them to kill in the name of God and feel useful or close to something grand. a reflection CAN cut you!! there was a discussion on here a few months ago about how we differ from animals; people claimed larger brains, etc.. i see no difference in action or behaviour, the only difference is we have a choice although it seldom seems like it.

I really dislike the term "terrorism", especially used in the context of people carrying out attacks for their religion. They're not attacking us to "terrorize" us any more than we are attacking them to "terrorize" them.

We haven't had any good TERRORISTS in a while. Terrorists fuck people's shit up simply to cause, you know, terror. They don't do it because they are in a holy war against someone else.

I don't think that the mujadeens deserve to be called Terrorists, they're just soldiers.

Terrorism is just another buzzword that we've been programmed to respond to in a certain way, instead of actually realizing what its true meaning is.

But yeah, cats are neat. ; )

Our terrorists now enjoy creating terror, they just have motivations for doing so.. It is like bowling for cancer or something...
Peace.

I thought soldiers were people who target armed enemies with violence, while terrorists are people who target unarmed civilians. The motivation for targeting armed enemies is to weaken the enemy's military capacity. The motivation for targeting unarmed civilians is to intimidate through fear. Terrorism is a tactic, not a motive, and any soldier who uses terrorist tactics is a war criminal who no longer deserves to be called a soldier.

Of course, they aren't exactly worried about whether or not they will earn the respect of their enemies as fighting fair.. And, sometimes, Terrorism can be a motive. Some weird people get off on it..
Peace.

I think most would agree that indiscriminate killing of sentient beings is evil.

Well, military weapons can be used for evil purposes, just like a Boeing 767 can. But what do you think Usama bin Laden would do if he had access to the same arsenal of weapons as Bush has? Hint: bin Laden encourages all muslims in the whole world to "kill Americans wherever and whenever you find them." (This is a reference to Sura 2:191 in the Holy Quran: kill the unbelievers wherever you find them). I'm not american, but this kind of talk is still very disturbing to me.

Bush is a recognized evil religious nut, but bin Laden and his ideological comrades definitely out-evil and out-nut him, by a large margin.
