Would adding a small % of crushed oyster shell to a PF tek cake substrate mix help with fighting off contams? I know it`s supposed to help with casing mixes. Not sure what the Ph of a BRF cake is... but wonder if this might help or if anyone has tried?...........thanks in advance :cool:

I don't know but give it a whirl it could not hurt it is used in Rye grain all the time

Oyster shell helps fight contam's? I never knew that; I thought it was only used for balancing ph...

....and thereofre help fight contamination since many molds don?t grow at higher pH.

I add a pinch of gypsum to my PF jars on a regulat basis, since the shrooms can use both calcium and sulphur, I haven?t seen any adverse effects, but I wouldn?t put my hand in fire that they grow much better.
