perlite ter. + pinhead questions...
    #374865 - 08/20/01 12:55 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

hey everyone

i recently cased 6 of my pftek jars in two trays, via the shroom wizard tech found on the beloved shroomery. i followed his advice, but i didnt think the casings were getting enough moisture, so i decided to rig up a couple of terrarums for the trays. i got two tupperware thingies, each about 12" x 12" x 18". is this size container good for perlite-style terrariums? will the 2 inch layer of wet perlite provide enough moisture for the containers? how often should i do airexchange? i have battery lights in them for light, how much light per day should i give them? and about pinheads - a healthy pin head should be all white with a dark top, correct? do yellowish/whiteish pins mean too dry? (i know its not contaminated). also, what is the average time scale for pinheads to fatten up and grow into small shrooms? (any rough estimate would be nice) i think thats all. sorry this got so damn long, just looking for some answers out there. any help is greatly appreciated. thank you for time

Your humidity should be fine with your perlite setup..if not, do some manual misting at your own discretion.

Air exchange at least 2-3 times daily..

Pins will hit their 'growth spurt' in 2-5 days usually..Don't concern yourself with the colors of the pins unless they are black or some other obviously wrong color; just maintain humidity, air exchange and temps and you are golden.

Approx. 6 hrs/day of light is plenty for mushrooms to grow..Try giving them a little indirect sunlight if at all possible..
