does this look like healthy oyster mycelium ?
    #3697388 - 01/29/05 07:51 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

hey!

so i finally get into gourmet
rcv'd a sporeprint from a nice shroomerite of pink oyster,
made some agar cultures which sadly all contammed
(no peroxide agar
and no glovebox/flowhood is a bitch ..)

anyway, i prepped a spore syringe with it, and nocked up some rye,
now i wonder if this is healthy looking oyster mycelium,
as i just know cubensis myc and it does look a bit different.

not as supabrightly shiney white and a bit 'weaker', its no mold
though, i would be able to tell the difference.

so heres the jar of concern:

gourmet wizzes, gimme input

Looks fine to me. Many mushrooms have mycelium that is wispy and translucent. Get it on a fruiting substrate now, and you'll be convinced yourself.

Good job.

Looks good.
The mycelium of pink oyster also has a pink hue.
It seems as if the pf-tek method of using spores for inoculation also would work for gourmet species very well .
You could try to grow them on pasteurized straw.
Just make sure that they get enough humidity/air exchange and keep the temperature over 20 degrees Celsius.

Yeah, straw or sawdust is your best bet. Toilet paper rolls are novel, but not high yielding; not much nutrition left there after all that recycling/processing.
