Fanning too little?
    #3688858 -

Is it bad to only fan out your fruiting chamber 2 times a day (1 time in morning and 1 time at night)? I am gone most of the day and my fruiting chamber isn't that tall.

I don't think so, I think that 2 times a day fine from what I've heard...what species are you trying to grow?

species = Ps. Cubensis. Strain is B+. Get that straight.

You need more than 2 FAE (fresh air exchanges) a day for optimal growth. Your mushrooms will be stringy (thin) and have small caps... possibly growing weakly and being limp. :frown: not cool.

why don't you check the website and do a search on the forums before asking next time?

i'll post a reference on FAE here in a minute.

look here:
http://www.shroomery.org/index/par/23457

it says 2-3 times a day is practical. They WILL grow, but more FAE than that will be good. it's the difference between Optimal and just enough to work.

The better you take care of your mushrooms, the better they will grow.

Also, I don't like the B+ strain. I got some huge fruits, but pinning was poor. :frown: I do, however, like Golden Teachers (GT) and PESA. I'll get my chance to work with PES Hawaiian and Malabars soon.

to each his own. i haven't worked with that strain before.

some people do well with certain strains. Some people love B+, I just didn't like it.

I'd reccomend more FAE, anyways.

hmm well I hurd that B+ isnt that really visual when it come to tripping. GT grows tall right? I think my chamber is too small for GT but what do I know. What happends if the shrooms touch the ceiling of a small growing chamber? Will they stop?

No they won't stop they will curve and contort and keep going IME. I would try to give them enough headroom though.

The cambodians are okay. The pinsets are a bit small, in my opinion. The pesa strain is one of the best all around cubes. I like the way that the cambodians grow, though. They grow together like a little mushroom family. Very neat. I've never grown with b+, but i have heard mixed reviews. Good luck on your venture.

How high is enough head room? Like how many inches high do shrooms usually grow?

4-5 times a day is ideal, if you can do that. 1-2 will work though.

The biggest problem with manual fanning is moisture depletion, and people not replacing that moisture properly. Make sure to mist those casings lightly with each fan, and if you are doing cakes + perlite also keep note of the RH, as too much fanning can dry things out a bit. Mist the walls if you have to, just keep that moisture up!

how much variation has been shown between strains of cubensis mushrooms..

The statement that B+ was less 'visual' than other strians on cubies, where is some proof documenting that?? Or has no research ever been done on the topic?? And if not then why would we be skeptic that different strains of the same mushroom species would contain different chemical make ups??
