Mycelium growth slowed to a crawl

Hey guys, this is my first post here. I'm using the standard PF Tek, innoculated 6 jars. That was 4 weeks ago. The jars are now covered in mycelium all the way around from top and down to about 1cm from the bottom, where the growth seems to have almost stopped. No pins are forming, and nothing seems to be happening. There is no contamination, and I can see just a tiny bit of condensation on the glass so I know the moisture is good (I used the exact amount specified in the PF Tek). What the hell is going on? I expected to see full colonization and pins forming by now.. what should I do??? Any help from you experts out there would be so appreciated! peace to all.

Take the tape off, loosen the lids, lay the jars on their sides and give them light. Now all you have to do is wait.

Hey great! Thanks for the tip! I just did that, and on one i disturbed it by bumping it and some vermiculite fell down the side of the cake. Is that okay? I would think it is, but I am very wary of introducing contamination. Whatcha think? Thanks again bro.

Puscles suggestion is right on the money for invitro, sounds like they are starving for oxygen - loosen the lids. My suggestion - case those babies. It's a little extra work, and a little extra reading but worth it in the long run. I never had great success with all the cakes I tried, but monumental success when I started casing. Search the shroomery for coco fiber.

You don't know what casing is? Damn, you need to read, A LOT. Basically, casing is when take some type of container (like a tupperware container) and you put some verm. in the bottom of it. Then you take your cakes after birthing them, and you crumble them and put this on top of the vermiculite. Then, you put more verm on top of the crumbled cake. You need details to understand... Go here for the most BASIC of casings, it's easy to do. If you can make a brf cake, then you can case with verm. Good luck...

shut up shiznitz, moon read the grow section on the shroomery, read specifically the casing teks, choose one you like and go with it, theres only one way to jump into cold water, thats all the way so that your penis gets wet. shrinkage sucks.

Y'all gonna confuse the poor boy. He's asking about the PF-Tek, not invitro and not casing.

moonrawk - to address your question about verm falling down the side, I can tell you that during my first time growing I messed with my incubating jars all the time...I was so damn impatient, picking them up and flipping them trying to get good pics and stuff. Anyway most of mine had verm all down the sides and looked pretty dirty. The cakes colonized nicely underneath that layer though and I had no problems with contams...so this long answer to your short question - I don't think you need to worry about the verm falling down the side.

Hey Shiznitz, goldenteacher, puscle, and everyone else, thanks so much for your help. The jars are coming along now, and your advice did the trick! I will definitely look into casing, as I imagine that would increase my yeild considerably. I don't know if I need more since I have the utmost respect for mushrooms, and refuse to abuse them by using them too often, like more than once in a month, or maybe even less, but hey, you can never be too prepared for a good camping trip or other wonderful nature experience where shrooms make it all the more fun and wonderous. Take care all. Moonrawk
