The Main Problem with Asking
    #3683567 -

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...0&fpart=all

About out 1 out of 10 posts in that thread actually deal with the guy's original question. The rest of them are just lectures about coke/ crack, and discussion about the lectures of coke/ crack.

Can you imagine if you went to Erowid, and all they had in the cocaine vault was, "COCAINE IS BAD! It will increase your risk of heart attack and kill your body! It will rot off your nose! You're stupid for doing cocaine, and it will ruin your life!" and it didn't have any useful information? That's like the ODD threads about hard drugs.

Seriously, people need to stop lecturing others and start supplying information, otherwise these forums just turn into useless bullshit like that thread.

ODD is for discussion of other drugs than common psychedelics and marijuana, the Pub is for mostly general discussion, so this does fit here.

ODD:

This forum is designed to serve as a discussion forum regarding psychoactive substances that are not mushroom related.

This is not about psychoactive substances, it is about the judgemental useless posting style of many people on these boards, so therefore it fits in the Pub.

I know what you mean, threads about certain drugs can become very opinionated. I do think it's good to warn people about the dangers of drugs but just posting "such a thing is bad, don't do it you idiot" isn't really what ODD should be about.

Now a warning backed up with facts would be a different matter...

Even threads that post the danger of that drug with full sources without answering the question are annoying. Imagine if someone said:

"I've recently started injecting heroin, and I need to know how to purify the heroin for shooting."

And someone's response was:

"Heroin causes collapsed veins, infection of heart lining and valves, abscesses, liver disease, pulmonary complications, and various types of pneumonia!" and then added a source. They add absolutely nothing to the topic, and if you notice the poster always ignores these posts and waits for one with actual content to arise.

No, you just registed on the 25th so you're not allowed in yet. I don't know how long it is before you are allowed in to ODD though.

It used to be 40 posts and 30 days, which in my opinion is more desireable, but they said too many people would postwhore just for access to those forums, so they changed it to 10 posts and 15 days.

This thread talks about it.

[must edit my above post]

To tell the truth, I've lectured a few people about certain drugs, but I've never insulted anyone. In my defense, my motive is good, I do it because I've seen what certain drugs can do to people, and I'm trying to help the younger folks make good choices....

No it isn't. It should be possible to turn crack back into cocaine: just add a dilute acid and evaporate.

Not entirely valid comparisons... he wanted to remove the adulterants... which is likely possible with some kitchen chemistry, just very inefficient and pointless.

I don't think so man- but you may be right... I was under the impression crack was chemically altered and could not be changed back to its original form.. I mean- sure you can turn water to vapor and vapor back to water, but this is different...
Any second opinions?

Ravus, I agree with you 100%....

Although I agree with you, and try not to judge people, nor try not to force my opinions on other people, I DO have a hard time refraining from chiming in on the OxyContin threads....  Why just Oxy....?  I have sadly "lost" a good musician friend / ex-band member of 5 years to it's powerful addiction....  He isn't "dead", but he sure ain't "living" anymore either....    He used to have lots of very good things going for him, including being an excellent young drummer with raw talent oooozzzing from within....  NOW there is only one thing in his life that he has a "drive" for....  It is very saddening, but is ultimately a choice that only he can change for himself....     People that are gonna~ get addicted, are gonna~ get addicted by "choice"....  Simple as that....

Because of watching this whole destructive "thing" unfold in real life and not being able to do a damn thing about it, I have a hard time reading those threads without wanting to YELL....  I want to warn EVERYONE about what it **can** do, but it would serve to do nothing, and I know this....  If I could not help a close friend in real life, I am pretty sure my words of warning would mean nothing coming from a stranger on the web....

So as I agree with you 100%, I also understand why people try -with a passion- to talk an unexperienced curious user from trying such things....  So I quietly sit back and think "You control you, and I hope it stays that way - for your own sake...."  The obtuse personal opinion / preaching approach only serves to piss people off....  And that is NOT what these forums are about....
