Dry ice question

I have a question concerning the dry ice method of preserving fresh mushroooms. When you drop in the piece of CO2, would the mushrooms not USE a least a LITTLE BIT of it while inside the jar? I know they need CO2 to live, so if you fill a jar with this gas, it would stand to reason that at least SOME oxygen would be emitted from the fresh mushrooms. I guess it's like trying to preserve a flame in oxygen; it will use up what it can, and evolve co2 as a by-product; so is the dry ice method really THAT effective????? Please let me know what works best for preserving fresh mushrooms.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that mushrooms actually need oxygen, not CO2 to survive. Hence why we provide fresh air to growing mycelium in the terrarium. Fungus isn't a plant. It doesn't photosynnthesize (needing sunlight and CO2).. I think. :)

I dont understand your question, perhaps make it a little more clearer and more people can respond, are you talking about drying, or preserving a fresh shroom for consumtion later? I don't get what youre saying.

Mushrooms are aerobic, meaning they use O2, just like you. The reason you fill with CO2 is to keep oxygen out. Not because the fungus will use the O2(Its dry and dead, it doesn't respire) but because O2 degrades the potency of your mushrooms. The dry ice works fine. Freezing the jar with the CO2 and shrooms will help keep potency even longer.

i don't think fresh ones would keep i they were sealed in a jar because of the lack of fresh air they would rot from all the humidity. i do think that it would work great for dried shrooms. just a thought. :-) peace!
