Hey everyone,
After reading everything she could and following these boards for a while, my mom's finally trying out her blue thumb. Now she's got 11 1/2 pt pf style jars colonizing with EQ. After 14 days, 6 jars are %80-100 colonized, the other 5 are about %30-50. No sign of contams, she's feeling lucky, so she took off the lid of one of the nearly-done ones. There's something fluffy white showing up in the verm layer, and she finds this in some of the faster jars but not any of the slower ones. Is it definitely cobweb, or is it possible for strong mycelium to get up there a little bit? If it is evil mold, is there a way to use h202 on cakes in a jar? Give my mom the truth, she can take it.

Cobweb is grey and rarely contaminates jars.

Just sounds like mycelium to me.... tell yer mom to smell it ..... if it smells sour or anything not like that great mushroom smell then yeah it's contaminated...not sure about the H202 to stop it ... it could work .... and half the fun of this hobby is experimenting!! Good Luck!

that's mycelium coming up throught the verm; thats a good sign of strong growth... you can just remove it when you remove the verm. layer. Good luck to you and your mom.
