lowest light and still get pins...

im trying to set my operation up a little more covertly. with the terreriums (rubbermaid w/perlite) set up in total darkness all day, does anyone know if 3-4 minutes of artificial light a day is sufficient to initiate pinning? right now i give my other terrerium 12 hours of light, but it seems like the light only inhibits mycelium colonization. they would only get a few minutes indirect light when i was misting and fanning. what do you guys think? anyone have experience with this? or maybe i could give them an hour light every third day? thanks guys. I have my doubts about 3-4 minutes a day but it's possible. Many people have gotten away with as little as 15 minutes a day. Go to walmart or something and get one of those battery operated 'tap lights', the little self stick round lights. Stick it to the top of your terrarium and just click it on then 15 minutes or so later come back and turn it off. Might go through a couple of batteries every couple of weeks but its and easy light source for 3 or 4 bucks.

i'm a bit confused. first you asked about light to initiate pinning, but then went on to talk about light inhibiting mycelium colonization. when the substrate is being colonized, you don't want any light at all. when pinning, three minutes a day is not so hot. although, in the past, i've been suprised at many turns at how hardy and adaptative these little friends of ours can be, so you could give it a try. can't you rig up some sort of dim light source for longer than that? maybe even a flashlight?
best...

those tap lights are crap!!! i went through the trouble to steal one by wearing pants and sticking it in my sock, and i also stole 8 batteries for it (it took 8 betteries to turn on) and it only lasted for like two days, with it on when i was asleep and off when i was awake. they just eat batteries!
i may, fucking drop something natural somewhere and it might grow into another piece of shit like you. i dont recognize any of you fucking people, youre not real, you came out of comic books.

that's about all I'd expect to get out of it. You can't expect to get much more than 15 hours or so per battery pack. But if you are only using it for 15-30 minutes a day it would last about a month. That's about par for any battery operated light, even a flashlight wont last more than a few hours if on constantly.

I have a generic tap light that only uses 4 bateries i think, maybe two. And it has lasted for a few months of use. Not constantly on, but just on for a few minutes at a time.
I don't care about jack shit, I just wanna pick my nose!!!
