newbie question about brown rice flour

I just bought some brown rice flour to use with the MMGG tek. I really expected that it would be more brown in color; it's just an off white. Is it easy to see the mycelium growth while using this substrate as a background?

You''ll be mixing it with vermiculite right?

The verm is much darker and will make it easier to see the mycellium.
