whats up shroomers. i was wondering what you guys thought would be a simple and efficient terrerium. right now im using about $80 worth of stuff in a cooler. drip shield, digital thermometer, digital hyrometer, and cool mist humidifier. its working, but not very well. i still live with the parents, and this thing takes up half my closet. i need something more concealable and simpler. rubbermaid tub with damp perlite on bottom seems easier. could you put plastic pans with casings on the perlite? also, how could i get them enough light to pin if theyre in a tub? it needs to be easy but something i can hide. would i still mist the casings in perlite container, or not.thanks guys, MiAstoR

Well i cant help you with the casings part of your question because I have no experience in this area. Although a FOAF has a rubbermaid container in his closet with a fluorescent light inside the container strapped to the lid with zip-ties from the inside. There is foil on the inside of the lid and no light can be seen from the outside when it is on. He is using damp perlite and his digital therm/humidity guage reads HIGH or 99% all the time and about 81 degrees. The light increases the temp about 3 degrees when on. This setup is very stealthy and there is even a lock on the chest. I hope this info has helped. Oh yea, he has 12 PF style cakes in there and they are all doing great. I hope to hear info and see if he can do casings in this setup too.

perlite humidification usually kicks the humidity pretty high, 90%+. That can be a little too high for casings sometimes. You could do it but I'd go lightly on the misting or the casing may be overcome with mycelial growth preventing any further moisture from being absorbed. I currently have 2 small casings in a rubbermaid with perlite. They are doing well with misting once every other day and lightly even then.

i used to use perlite, and mist & fan...
it worked wooondefully....
lots of flushes and plentiful...
however, i fanned every four hours.... (you can become a slave to it... but call me a masochist for it, i loved it.)

Perlite, a rubbermaid container, some h20 with a little h202 in it, and a few hours of light a day...of course airing out a couple times a day and perhaps misting when the vermiculite looks dry on top. Pretty easy if you have a closet and some privacy.
