Shrooms in Michigan
    #361047 - 07/25/01 11:34 PM (22 years, 7 months ago)

I have a friend who finds Amanita Muscaria and Pantheria at his cabin in Northern Michigan, but he can never seem to find the other mushies that live in his area. He has tried looking in rotten hay in the spring in Lower Michigan but he got scared away by farmers. He asked me to ask you guys if you have heard of anyone getting any shrooms in Michigan besides Amanitas and where they might possibly grow at.

This tedious path I've chosen here,
I certainly would've walked away by now.
Gonna wait it out.

You could possibly see Psilocybe semilanceata starting in Late August/September. There are others, but I'm too lazy to look right now. I definitely have read of the liberty cap growing there, though. Stay cool!-Levi7.

I would try for Panaeolus subbalteatus first..
-Look in horse pastures, during late Spring/early Summer.

Psilocybe semilanceata (Liberty caps) could possibly be found in the northern most portions of the state..possibly.
-Look in cow pastures, during late Fall/early Winter.

Hi,

Well in Stamets book Psilocybe Mushrooms of the World, he mentions that Panaeolus subbalteatus "Grows cespitosely to gregariously in dung or in well-manured ground in the spring, summer and early fall." -Subbs are possibly one of the most widely distributed psychoactive mushrooms in the world "Reported from North America, South America, Europe, middle Siberia, Africa, and the Hawiian archipelago".

So, it seems certainly possible that they might grow this time of year in southern Michigan. -Though I suspect they would be an easier find in the northern portion of the state. --Thats drawing a little too near to the virtually shroomless land of Indiana and Illinois, an unfortunate drawback to living in the midwest, it would be for me at least.

Keep Shroomin,
GG
