Casing Timing and Overlay..Please Help!

Hello again knowledgable mushroom people. I need to call upon your collective inteligence. So, my friend is doing a casing for his first time. He was away from home for four days so he seran wrapped his tra which he had just cased and left them in the dark. when he came home the mycelium had erupted through the casing layer and is now covering approx. 40-50% of the surface. What should his next move be? Would you reccomend cold shocking the trays in the fridge? how can he avoid overlay? Thank you!

Take a fork and sterilize it with rubbing alcohol. Then use the fork to lightly ruffle the top 1/4 inch of the casing layer(don't dig too deep!!) Let this sit for 24 hours and then proceed with your pin setting - drop the temp( I usually accomplish this by putting my container (covered of course) outside overnight - temps anywhere between 50 - 70 are fine. That next morning I bring it back inside and start the lighting schedule 12 hr on/off and fanning it 2-3 times a day. If your outdoor temps don't drop that much at night I would just start the light/fanning schedule and go from there. I wouldn't suggest putting your casing in the refrigerator unless you have an extremely clean one!!
