A quick stupid question from a newbie

ok i'm a newbie so bear with me. When the jars are fully colonized and it's time to case them how do you get the cake out of the jar? It's a dumb question, i know, but I cased one of my jars and it was impossible to get it out by trying to shake it out. I had to use a knife. Was this safe or will my cake get contaminated?

The first jar i colonised was shaped so that i couldnt get the cake out...I sterilised a knife and cut it into bits and cased it... Fairly dissappointing results

That's what i thought bluemeanie. Thanks for your posts people. I thought that it wouldn't be good for the cake. Anyway, it looks like i'm gonna have to find a way to get those suckers out of their jars somehow.

I cut em also to get it out of the jar but I cut the cake roughly 1/3 down the middle took the smaller piece out then the other. You many have to slice "alittle of the sides" also. Then I just put the 2 pieces back together when I cased. Also those little slices you take off the sides you slice em up and use to fill in the cracks and open spaces in your substrate layer.
