rye flakes

will rye flakes work like rye berries? i just got a pressure cooker : ) and i want to colonize my next batch on rye. i couldnt find any whole grain rye berries but i did find some whole grain rye flakes. it looks like oatmeal (except its brown with white things on it). will this work. i would think that it would because it has all the same nutrients as the berries but its just sliced. i think i will try it to see if it works, but i need the ratio of water to rye flakes.

Rye flakes sound like they might work nice for fortifying/supplementing a woodchip substrate. If you're going to use them as a substrate, you'll probably want to add some vermiculite or perlite to keep things loose/airy.

The only place I've found rye berries, so far, is the health food store.
