Ok, done cubensis to death. Whats next?
Are there any other non - cubensis mushrooms that fruit on grain flour / vermiculite style cakes? (and that are also psychoactive?)

Buy TMC from the bookstore theres a few non-cubensis covered. Quart jars and grain is mostly the substr8 of choice.

Yes, you can fruit other strains off of PF teks. You dont see many because people who have had experience with growing usually are using grain and bulk substrates.
I believe some species like Pan Cyans need manure but IM not too sure about that.

Socratesmind,
I already have TMC, so I don't need to buy it from the bookstore.
There is absolutely no reference to verm cakes in TMC. None.
If you don't know the answer to my question, then just say you don't know. Or better still, don't reply with "read the book" kind of answer.
Imagine if I'd spend the money to buy TMC, and then the discovered that the answer my question was not there?
The reason I asked the question is someone may have grown a non-cubie successfully from verm cakes, and they may want to share that information with other verm cake lovers.

Well if you read in there verm cakes don't provide a nutritive layer. So str8 verm is out of the question. So what are you asking? You need some kinda food for the mushies to chew on and not just verm. Also most exotics grow on grain or wood.

If you have done cubensis on grain flour/verm cakes to death then you might also want to do cubensis on grain or poo to death before moving onto harder species.

Then this would have opened a whole new world of possibilities to you.
As for cakes, P. cubensis is more or less the only cultivated Psilocybe species that will fruit readily off cakes. It has been done with Pan. cyanescens too, but the substrate must contain dung along with brf.

Vermiculite is one of the best substances that you can use to maintain consistant moisture in any substrate. Agaricus Brunnescens has been reported fruiting off a rye substrate, so you could make a large casing from say six 500ml rye/verm cakes and then case with pasterised 50/50 although ive never tried this. grain based cakes are still very useful in spawning wood-based substrates such as alder. I have grown out azures, ps.cyans, about six different subaeruginosae, hy.capnoides, oysters, shemiji and shiitake by first spawning rye cakes with some soaked alder ships added - eg. 50%verm, 20%alder and 10% rye to speed things up. These are great for spawning large amounts of soaked woodchips for these species. Even when spawning, i often surround the woods with some moist verm to maintain moisture. I have successfully fruited oysters from a cardboard, rye and verm based medium. I have successfully fruited shiitake from a large block made up of 60% oak, 5% rye and 35% verm for moisture and this worked great. I have fruited shemiji off similar types of blocks. By substituting manure for brf/rye in cakes, you can easily spawn pan cyans. I use 500mls jars with 50% verm, 10% rye and the rest manure and they colonise quickly - then just thinly cased, will fruit well... SO my point is that verm is very versatile - i use it in just about everything other than agar

5 cups verm 3 cups manure 10 Tbl brf 1.5 - 1.75 cups H20 (for 10-12 1/2 pints)
Fill canning jars & sterilise, innoc as usual. Once colonised, case 50/50 with lime.

Thanx Zhukov but that is something i cut and paste from someone else's post. It give you the basic idea for adapting that type of substrate to wood-based ones, etc. Just fuck off the verm layer and innoculate with agar wedges
