mushroom soil

i was in lowes hardware the other day and in the garden section saw a bag of mushroom soil.....
has anyone heard of or used this?
do you think it would work as a casing option?
just curious.

It might be mushroom manure made from a commercial mushroom growing place. It's good for garden but thats about it. It's usually sterile but I did get some from the Boy Scouts once and I had portabellas growing in my garden a couple weeks later!

Check with the store and find out exactly what it is.

lost an entire syringe to that stuff. Set up a load of nice jars and added the manure as other suggested. But it was the mushroom manure. All were DOA and extremely dry after the steaming.

mushroom soil is depleted mushroom growing medium. It is a perfect soil for plants, but useless for mushrooms, cuz all of the nutrients mushies need have been used up. Use it on your salvia plant. By the way, do you live in PA? I ask because thats where most comercially grown mushrooms come from, and thats where most mushroom soil is available. I'm in Philly, so I know about that kind of shit.
