Harvest question

So this is my second successful grow. I have some OI growin on straw in a double tub cased with 50/50 coir/verm. My last grow, I think I may have harvested early. In order to get maximum weight and potency out of my friend's leprachaun's mushrooms, when should I harvest them? Could someone give a picture?

See, I've hard that if you pick them right before the veil tears you get maximum potency. But for some reason or other, this doesnt seem valid. Plus, I'm also looking for maximum weight and I heard that they grow larger after dumping spores.

Anyone? Anno?

They "appear" to get larger due to cap opening up and undulating .
Once they reach maturity , they want to make next gen , not get bigger .
And once they start to dump you want to pick to keep spores from landing on sub and inhibiting future flushes , and they make one hell of a mess of chamber when spores really start to fly . :thumbdown:
You make choice ....
Do I want potentially the most vitamin content or do I want to plan for future and have spore supply at your disposal ?

My thought on the potency question is that they are more potent before the veil tears as well. Why? I don't have anything but personal experience to back it up, but I believe they stop producing chems at this point, or its reduced to an insignificant amount.

I think possibly they 'do' focus on new gens, or realize that once their cap is open, no more growth/personal life is needed. No one knows what role the active chems play in a mushrooms biology, so its hard to say.

A simple answer to why more potent is: if the previous is infact true, further mushroom growth 'dilutes' the current ratio of chem to tissue. The only way to prove if this is true is if someone took say 50 unopened and 50 mature mushrooms from the same flush, assayed the bulk of each and compared the results. anyone up for this? :P ~D
