a friend has an EM-U/ Px-7 command station(128- voice synth multi track sequencer)
& a MAudio MIDISport UNO 1x1 MIDI Interface
and would like to hook it up to his computer. can you suggest some good audio software that is compatible with his equipment & is somewhat user friendly?
things like fruity loops, but better?

Ack! All of my electronic musician magazines are at my parents. I have an issue that tells a ton of ways to hook it up and which ways are the best for certain priceranges. Too bad I don't them with me =]

You know what's really funny 40? i was just at ye olde beer store and the song "clocks" by coldplay came on the radio, and I was like: WTFUCK? I know that song from somewhere, and the girl behind the counter was like:"oh, that's Coldplay" and so i'm like "is it old or new?"(pls be aware, i haven't listened to the radio nor consulted with mass/popular media for many years) And she says: "it's pretty new" Weird or what man?

man between fruity loops and adobe audtion, a bass, a guitar, some drums, a few different mics and about a $1000 investment in various keyboards/guitar/bass effects, i can make some goddamn good music. you can make it as easy or as hard as you want it i'm sure you don't need to be told that many in the arts & literature forums are aces and could tell you more on the subject that's my two cents

i use my sampler out to a mixer into my machine via the mic cable not exactly optimal, but sometimes you gotta work with what you got i also love keys (bass, guit, any random item)>amp>nice ole mic i got>comp i use adobe audition for all of my direct recording, i chop it up in that same program and then if i need to i chop it some more in fruity loops it gets the job done, tricky part is vocals, my trick is to make my .flp (fruity loops file ) into a wav, then multitrack in adobe audition for my vocals although sometimes you get some out there sounds just fucking with your loops
alternately, you could get a midi card for your comp i've used cubase, the propellorhead progs, etc. and in my mind there is nothing as effective, for me, as the fruity/audition combo with my setup and genre, etc.

also, i should note it took two years of working with those programs before i became proficient enough to get something good the keys, sampler, etc. are a recent, and awesome addition i recall you are a guitar player, you might want to look at one of these: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/153058/ for some cool effects i just bought one have done some interesting layered bass/guitar loops straight into my comp through an amp, getting the sound sounding good was a little tricky but there are a thousand little tricks you will figure out check out the free dls of some progs, see what works best for you fruity and audition are very user friendly

ok. do you all understand the difference between audio and MIDI? - MIDI is the controlling information for your audio engine. (note, velocity, duration, etc.) MIDI contains no actual sound data. if your friend wants to record his sequence information from the PX, he needs to record it as MIDI into the MIDI sequencer within Reason, Cubase or Logic. he could use the PX to control an audio engine like Reason via MIDI. but the actual audio would be generated by Reason and not the PX. Reason does not record and playback audio, it can only record MIDI. you would then use Cubase or Logic to record Reasons' audio. if your friend wants to record the actual audio coming from the PX, he needs to use an audio interface, or the computers' sound card with a Digital Audio Workstaion like Cubase or Logic... hope that helps. btw, i just scored an EMU PX-7 on ebay, actual hardware kicks progs like Reason in the balls! tell him to hold on to it, EMU stopped making all of it's sound modules and they will only rise in value.
