Recommend me some music

As I will be up all night anyway and am looking for something to occupy my mind.

I love:
Pink Floyd, Iron & Wine, Coltrane, Beatles, Deltron 3030, Mogwai, Boards of Canada, Do Make Say Think, Godspeed You Black Emperor, Soul Position, Mos Def, DJ Shadow, Coil, Air, Broken Social Scene, The Shins, The Eels, Opeth, cLOUDDEAD, Tool, many bands similar to these and plenty of others that are not. Innovation, experimentation, uniqueness, and musical value are the keys to success.

I hate:
Nu-metal, overdone retarded shit from the 80s (decisions made on a case-to-case basis), obvious and painfully long loop-based music (trance music being the main offender here).

So, that being said, make some suggestions as to what you think I'd like! Lacking that, just talk about the bands that you like.

The Dead are pretty good. I have the compilation "What A Long Strange Trip It's Been". Sometimes feels like their songs drag on and on, though (I presume this is mostly that the band was usually much more intoxicated than I and gets all lost in the jammage).

Yo, seriously, to anyone who reads this thread, please post your favorites (don't be intimidated by my list of obscure crap). I'm not going to attack you for them (even if I despise them), and I really do need some bloody music. Quit lurkin, y'all! :shakes fist:

Slightly more so, yes. I haven't heard either Vendetta Red or Ours, and approve wholeheartedly of the rest :thumbup:

I'll be aligning to the jazz side of this, since i see you mentioned coltrane.

Cannonball Adderly - Somethin' Else

Some Charlie Parker perhaps...the ken burns jazz has a nice selection of his works.

I'm an eternal fan of Stan Getz, "The Essential" has a nice mix, but my personal favorite is him & Joao gilberto doing a bunch of bossa novas.

Charlie Hunter Trio/Quartet is awesome, the shango is a great cd.


And of course, a little miles lovin never hurt anyone :smile:
