I think to appreciate Kraftwerk you have to understand their context and where/when their music is coming from. Any fan of electronic music, IMO, should try their best to appreciate Kraftwerk because it was Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder that laid down a lot of the groundwork for the entire electronic movement.
When you listen to Computer World and Trans-Europe Express, I don't know about you, but my mind gets blown by the fact that these records came out in the early 70's. These four guys were taking advantage of technology in a way that only one other band was, and that's Pink Floyd. Their music was made on computers, their live show is the four of them on laptops, but they made that music on computers long before computers were advanced enough that anyone could make music like that.

Yeah, I think most hippies could come to dig the Shins and their feel good folksy rock vibe.

Oh, and Drink_Punk_Soda, if you don't have:
The Arcade Fire - Funeral
then you're missing out on an instant classic in the history of rock and roll.

You would be surprised. I listen to a wide variety of music.. metal is my forte.. but I also love classic rock, jazz, fusion, classical, jam bands, bluegrass, blues.. and even listen to a good amount of electronica and psy-trance. Basically any music with a groove and some skill I can appreciate, as a musician. Kraftwerk just didn't do it for me though. But maybe I can give them another chance.. some groups grow on you the more you listen to them. A lot of bands I listen to now, I thought sucked the first time I heard them.

Great album and love the video for Rebellion (Lies).
Of Montreal - Satanic Panic in the Attic
they're kinda of like a psychedelic bubble gum pop sound.

Its fun stuff you should.
Its weird, just about a week ago I downloaded some tracks from Manitoba who apparently turned into Caribou I'll have to give them a relisten and find the Milk of Human kindness.

Yeah Caribou was forced to change their name because of some guy who was the leader of another band and his nickname was Manitoba. He never released ANY music under that name but somehow won a lawsuit of copyright infringement. Anyhow, the new Caribou record's great.

Yeah man, and don't you live kinda near the tri-state area? (Not sure, just assuming.) You're around plenty of good live stuff. Come toke sometime!
Also, websites like Loose Record (I'm biased on that one, I write for them) and Pitchfork are good places to keep up on good music.
