do you know Silence?

Does anybody remember a time in their life where they experienced pure silence? Silence in the sense of not hearing anything AT ALL?
Persoanlly, I can't. It's not something i've ever tried to find, but it occured to me that hearing silence is something very rare that not many people have the privilege of knowing, and that it would be pretty cool to know what Silence is.
I have no idea where I would try to find such thing, but I doubt I'll ever find it because i have very sensitive ears, and when noises diminish at night, i find my heart beat or weird other bodily sounds to be very loud.

closest ive come is to hearing only the noise my self makes. liek you say heart beating and my ears i can somtimes hear making a noise. but to my ears, and not including my own noises, i have heard silence. quite peacefull and relaxing, with a touch of paranoia.

When you get to that certain place where it becomes so deafeningly silent that all you can hear is your own heartbeat, breathing... pay attention to the gap; the space in between the sounds. That, is the stillness, the silence, out of which the sounds are born. Moreover, inner stillness is not contingent on silence, which is beautiful..

Very rarely have I experienced silence. My mind is usually wo-o-o-o-shing at very high rates of speed, even if all around me is still. However, I remember one time, when I was in my 20s, and I went to a pool with a friend. I was lying on my towel, tanning, and looking up at the trees whose branches were hovering over me. The wind was blowing through those branches, and I was lost for a little while in the wind and the leaves. In the background were the noises of the kids in the pool, but just slight background noises they were, as if they belonged. And even though all these noises were occuring, I found, if not silence, at least a stillness, in spite of the movement. It was like a short, brief respite from time.

I don't think I'd remember hearing Silence if i ever did, because I haven't given much thought until now. I'll be on the look out for it from now on though!

I meditate with ear plugs as well, but even then, Silence is absent. My breathing, my heart beat and blood flow, my ear buzz, and other body sounds tend to get very loud when i have ear plugs.
Sometimes I wonder if Silence is something that can be experienced. I know that space is silent for example, but if i was to go up there, that would mean i'd bring my heart and my breathing with me as well, making silence not silent anymore.
I just thought it'd be interesting to see if people have heard it, because Silence is somewhat paradoxal.

what about deaf people would they hear the buzz in the ears or body sounds? i cannot fully immerse myself in the experience of meditation with earplugs, otherwise i would have screaming kids to overcome. only at night is the easist.

I already said yes :P
Silence comes when one no longer attaches their awareness to the oscillating air molecules that vibrate their eardrums.
It is not so much whether or not sound 'exists', but rather whether or not one is in contact with the perception of it. As long as there are air molecules or other molecules around, vibrations (whether audible or not) will _always_ exist (except maybe at absolute zero, but that seems like an impossible goal).
So withdraw and let go. There are no sounds if you do not percieve them, like the analogy of the tree falling in the forest.
To me, this is the most direct path to silence, and it costs absolutely nothing

but deaf people can still hear music from the vibrations touching their other, now more sensitive organs. Hell, sometimes the physical pleasure of vibrations is better than the music- but they are one and the same.

I've tried. It would seem that my mind makes up sounds to compensate. I've gotten it fairly low- but silent? never

So basicaly to achieve silence, you'd have to try and ignore the sounds that you would normally be hearing, you'd have to detach yourself from hearing sensations huh? But then to make sure that you aren't hearing anything, you'd have to check what your ears are receiving, thus making silence not silent anymore!
hehe, i'll shut up about this now
