funny thing about silence
    #11639985 -

is how it can be interpreted differently by people...    it's funny to observe how people react when you don't say everything that is on your mind.

it might just be a case of introvertsm and extroverts  ...  or individuals programing/

I try to meditate my thoughts so im often very quiet...    i notice some people will get a lot of anxiety around quiet people

Why do you think this is?    Is it just a case of different personalities?  or lack of mediation?

i think for some people silence around others is just a rare occurrence ... and can become too 'emotionally real'. some people seem to be mainly used to surface-level relationships, where interactions seem almost pre-scripted. when silence is introduced, it does not compute, and they feel really uncomfortable, confused, and a little vulnerable.

what works for me is not caring about things at all. this way nothing really bothers me socially. silence is very nice and also a lot easier... and its especially nice to have friends where the silence is mutually enjoyed and never awkward.

I'm a really quiet person. I think others just think you're not being open because you're hiding something. I guess you could atribute it to an anima and animus kind of idea where the opposites of your personality make you uncomfortable.

i find this topic very interesting

I think the most uncomfortable thing about silence is that you are left thinking about what the other person is thinking, and it could be anything.

It can also be uncomfortable because if you are just being silent, existing next to each other, it can be very powerful. It is generally something that is done between friends or even lovers, but not general strangers. So people often start conversation when with strangers because otherwise it could be percieved that you are thinking negative or threatening thoughts or simply do not like that person. Ostracisation is one of the most powerful human behaviors and being silent in the presence of someone is the first step to ostracism

Sometimes the silence in you can trigger intense noise in someone else

It just goes to show insecurities, which is good, because then we learn to move through the noise

If you don't become aware of something flaring up you can't transcend it, so even if you trigger noise in someone, its good, because they are becoming aware of their noise, rather than staying identified with the noise & feeding into it, some beings identify with the noise so much that when the noise is threatened by the silence, they'll make more & more noise & try to cover up the silence, which is impossible to do forever, eventually the silence swallows everything

The human brain always wants to process data even when there is none to process.  People just love to fucking make noise to keep these processes running full time.

This is why isolation chambers are so incredibly powerful, yet they are comprised of nothing more than salt filled water, darkness and silence.

I think I've noticed this, too, but I could just be projecting.

It's one thing to simply enjoy a style of life that one enjoys, but it's another thing altogether to refer to another person's choice as "wrong" or to rationalize their behavior as being pathological or resulting from some sort of inadequacy or failing so as to create a sense of superiority or separation as yet another projection of a personal fear or control issue.

I know that I've met the right girl when we can hold long, comfortable silences.
