Cant find anything online or on the boards about this particular species.

Hey, Felix
Can they take a little bit of frost now and then? If so, I should have no problem.

hi stoney! once well stabilished this tree should be hard to get killed by a bit of frost... protect it's base and it should be fine. i'm not sure if this species is used to freezing on its habitat (certainly the ones in the border of the woods do catch some cold but their habitat is rather the inner jungle)... what i can tell for sure is that virola oleifera does endure well the little frosts that strike it every year...

i've been browsing the web for germination methods, it seems these seeds do have a dormancy issue... i would recommend you guys nicking the seeds with sand or sandpaper, or perhaps even to fully (and carefully) remove the outer husk and putting in a wet medium for germination.

The seeds I got were moist and fresh. I opened the outer husk and took out the inner seed. That was put in soil and 5 were put in a wet paper towel. The 5 in the towel gave me 3 with roots, the other 2 look unlikely to make it. The 7 in soil haven't come up yet after almost 3 weeks but a couple have made bulges in the dirt and no doubt will soon come up. None yet have come up and shown leaves but I'm sure a few will > I dont know if dry seeds will sprout or not.
Thanks for the tips, Felix.

I wouldn't think so. I would prepair them like P. viridis.

Okay i took off the casing to the seed. I see what you guys ment, i didnt know that it was a shell, i thought it was part of the seed. After i took the casing off i placed it in papertowel (recycled tree kind) I have had the best luck with that brand. Lets see what happens. ill keep you posted with pictures if anything sprouts.

The seeds themselves are about 1/2" long and maybe 1/4" or 3/8" wide. The outer covering is larger like almost 1" long and fat. Inside you find the seed covered by an orange/red covering. The outer covering is easy to peel off and you can scrape off the red/orange layer or leave it on. I have some dry hard seeds but I doubt they will come up. A few of mine are coming up but no leaves yet.

The ones on the paper towel showed roots but the ones in soil may have had just as many roots but haven't pushed up yet. They are actually larger than what I said. They are about 1/2" x 5/8" at least the moist ones. The dry ones are smaller, I'll keep them to test
