This is not a flame. It's not putting down anothers' product. It's simply my experience.
PF was the very first web page I came across in my search for mushrooms. I followed his tek to the letter, using his syringes. In retrospect, the tek was nearly perfect, but the spores were not. My results were marginal.
I have never had a PF cake yield more than 4 fruits at a time, or have a significant 2nd or 3rd flush.
Fast forward to about a year later. . . .I have just printed 4 huge dark purple/black prints of Golden Teacher from a different vendor (whose name I won't mention) . . and DAMN am I thrilled.
I only had 4 cakes, innoculated on May 14. Birthed on June 8. From the 4 cakes, I have 21 NICE fruits--that's only the first flush, and I expect to see more.
I have done absolutely nothing differently this time, but my results are easily 3x more yield. Plus--the fruits are straighter. More like the pictures of the beautiful fruits I've seen pics of here, but thought I'd never achieve. PF's strain grew every which way, thin whispy stalks that bowed under the weight of the cap and produces far less mass.
I have often fantasized about having results like the pics I see posted here. . . and often wondered if the spore strain was the issue.
Months ago, I responded to a post re. one who was not satisfied with his PF-purchased spores. I said I had a similar experience, and that perhaps senescense was the culprit.
Hippie3 flamed the hell out of me for that response. . . .said I was malicious and lacked knowledge.
Well, now I know better. Hate to say "I told you so," but PF's tek rocks. His spores do not.
Am I crazy here? Or does anyone share my story?

I'm impressed and happy for your success. However, I would like to disagree with your opinion on the quality of PF's syringes.

I can't fruit a pf cake to save my life, but that classic strain is kickin' the shit out of the tray I see. Check that worm/straw post...

I should have noted, I did case PF's a few times, and the results were not poor. I did have a lot of fruits, but they were whispy and had the appearance of toothpicks in a hurricane.

All said and done, the total weight of product was less than 20% greater than from the same cakes.

I'm looking very forward to when I case the syringes I'll make from the prints I have from this latest endeavor.

I have renewed optimism.

There are so many different ways that a PF cake can come out that virtually nobody will have the same results... I have had PF cakes produce like yours (four or so shrooms per flush) and have had the same syringe with the same substrate produce fifteen or more right beside it on another cake!

You're right about the PF "Classic" being a really ugly, twisted bastard... I have never had any two shrooms look the same (grin) but I ALWAYS get results and they rock in the potency category. I am not one who looks for "pretty" mushies: I want shrooms that are guaranteed to take off FAST and be ready to harvest even faster! The PF is the fastest, most idiot-proof shroom that I have come across to date. So what if it won't win a beauty contest- I'll be tripping balls long before the other guy has even finished colonizing his jars!

update:

here I am 5 days later, and as I hoped, I'm harvesting my second flush off the same 4 cakes.

My first flush was about 20 shrooms at about 7 dry grams total.

My second flush is not dry yet, and I'm not weighing them wet, but I'll guess that it will be at least 10 grams with about 6 fruits per cake--that's 24 fruits from 4 cakes.

As I stated a week ago, I've done absolutely nothing differently other than NOT using PF's spores.

I'm convinced beyond reasonable doubt that it's all in the strain.

I am tickled pink. I'm about to pass out cigars.

I'm almost to the point where I'll be sending Ralph 10 prints or so.

This Golden Teacher is one heavy stemmed mother-f****r.
