Getting to the bottom of casing
    #340722 -

I've got a 8" x 4" casing that looks like it's about done flushing and as I was examining it I came across an idea. It has shrunken enough to leave a 1/2" gap between the casing and casing tray wall. Well I carefully turned the tray over and dumped the casing out exposing the healthy mycelium at the bottom that had overtaken the thin vermiculite layer I placed under it. Now, If I put the cased mycelium in upside-down exposing the mycelium that was previously on the bottom, and then recase it should the mycelium start colonizing the new casing layer resulting in at least one more flush? Or, even though it still looks healthy, is it void of necessary nutrients. I've heard of dunking the casing in skim milk to add nutrients, is this worthwhile or does anyone have any other suggestions for adding nutrients back to it? I'm going to try it nonetheless but I was just looking for some input.

Thanks,
-bb

I was reading an old thread today where someone dunked his mycelium cake in skim milk and he was wondering why his setup had developed a funky smell; I found it quite funny seeing as the only thing milk does at room temperature is rot, MILK ROTS!

Yes...but I think in the same thread someone mentioned drying it off before putting it back in the terrarium. I think I'm just going to try it without any type of "nutrient addition".

Whatever your method, with milk at room temperature won't you still end up with cheese?
