is this contamination
    #340205 - 06/13/01 09:55 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

I have an invitro cake that has deveoped a dark brown to orangish thread/worm/ snake type growth on the upper third of the cake. What is most curious about this growth is that it formed after 100% colinization of mycilium, and there is no spreading above or bellow it. what is it? is it dangerous? has any one seen anything like it? its thiker than fishine line and thiner than yarn and curvy like a minmiture vine. any suggestions on how to proceed with this cake or what this growthis?

Hmm, I was going to say it may be possible "rust" runoff from your lids, but it sounds like it's too deep in the cake. Odd colors are usually a sign of contams though...

In the 60's people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, people take prozac to make it normal.

PEACE

Are you sure that it's growing? It may just be mycelial excrement.
