Some pictures of a new Psilocybe from GA
    #3354979 - 11/13/04 11:14 AM (13 years, 7 months ago)

Not many of these fruiting this year, hope its not a trend. Gumby, his friend and I went out last weekend on a sort of "season closer" hunt since the cold weather is setting in and season is coming to a end. We started out the day first by checking in on the location at which my new species can be found. We found 20-30 smallish Ps. weiliis' and only a handfull of 10 or so of the new species. They were far and few for sure, but we managed to scrounge up enough for some pics, prints, and material to be sent in for ID. Then we headed off to a few of our better Ps. weilii subdivisions and soon had our paper bags on the way to being filled. After the first subdivision we had a good 100-150 weilii each with a few Gyms tossed in the mix, and after the second we had around 700-800 weilii total between the three of us. I think they scored around 500 or so mushrooms, and I had around 300. They had more hands working than me, an obvious advantage I could not compete with  So I guess we picked about evenly if you take into account his four hands vs. my two  All in all, it was a great way to end the season, I had a great time picking with gumby & friends and can't wait till spring rolls around and we kick of yet another season of the wonderful weilii!

Ps. weilii pictures to come...

I do have sporeprint pics but they aren't on my new comp yet. Yes I have eaten them before, so has a close friend of mine on many occasions, they are very active, they are a bit more potent than cubensis in dry weight comparrison.

I'm not sure if I got a pic of that giant or not, I kinda got lazy that night and just tossed em on the dehydrator didn't take many pictures.

As far as we know they were G. spectablilis. Do you have a copy of the Gym monogram, GG?

LK: Have you spotted any more of my possible new species on your property? Any progress on "cuberizing" the horse field?

Yeah, I've got Mr. M's phone number. I think I'll give him a call and ask him if he can fax it to me.

Wouldn't that cost a pretty penny? Faxiong many pages?

Maybe he can xerox it cheaper and mail it or scan it to you?

Anyway, Good idea but it is the only one on the Gyms but very outdated on all the id's. Check Amirattuis shroom books on northwest Mushrooms for generic descriptions of some of the genus. I have some info in my fikles somewhere. Will look in a few days. Working on several other projects att same time.
