Questions regarding hydroponics and seedlings
    #3354157 -

OK, I recently purchased a 430 watt HPS light system and a 6 plant drip system.. When I purchased the drip system, there came this dome thing with all this green stuff (peatmoss or something?) with holes in it where im supposed to place the seedlings. I didnt get instructions on how I should use in order to grow the seedlings into veg. I have a ph pen and phosphoric acid, etc. Im aiming to grow 2 white widow, 2 jackherer x northern lights, 1 juicy fruit x early girl, and 1 northern lights x great white shark.

There are currently 4 white widow seeds in germinating right now, 4 jack x norther, 2 juicy x early, and 2 northern x shark.. Are these enuff seeds to ensure 6 females? Since I only have a 6 plant drip system how am I going to install all these plants and guarentee 6 females? Will I have to put some into soil and convert to hydro?

How long does it take to tell whether the plant is a male or female?
Can I convert soil plants to hydroponic?

55 days

Yes,by taking a clone from the plant.

Look up preflowers at OG.

Start the seedlings in small rockwool cubes feeding them water 1-2 times a day then later a mild fert solution. After 4-7 days you can place the cube in the center of a netpot or larger rockwool cube and have it get used to the hydro system.

What made you choose drip? Its one of the most simple systems so its great for large scale ops but dosent yield as good as most other systems like a simple bubble bucket, E&F, or aerospring areoponic.

You can rinse off the soil and coil the roots up at the bottom of a netpot. You will need to pull the lights back for a few days after the transplant. Also it might be a bit topheavy because thereas no roots to counter ballance it so you might want to tie a string from the plant to the top of your chamber or to your HPS chains.

I would say your best bet to get a good harvest is starting 8-12 plants and cram them into your growroom. When you sex them chop the males and if there are any 2 fems in the same hole just use etrings to pull therem to fill in the canopy.

Make a small veg setup with 18/6 lighting on the side using floro tubes. Be sure to have the light blocked off from the flower setup. When you sex your plants take 2-3 cuttings of each female, pick the best one after they root and make that a mom by cutting it at the 4th node and trainging the branches out so its like a challice.

Ive always heard that drip systems yield a lot and were extremely simple. Im planning to harvest (hopefully) 1 pound on each plant.

If I grow 6 instead of 8 - 12, I will be able to grow each plant bigger.. I only bought a 6 plant drip system anyway.. thatd mean Id have to go back to the store, buy more shit, etc.... Ill just grow 6 plants and clone the females right away and discard the males

You're hoping to get 6 lbs from a 430w light? Ganjaman, sorry to say but you havn't done your homework and your success as a grower will most likely reflect this.

Why are you diving right into hydro? Why not grow a couple of crops in soil first and get a feel for the plant's life cycle?

I dont really know much about marijuana, thats why I am asking questions....

How much am I expected to yield off of this setup?

I am not diving into soil because the hydro system was given to me as a gift... I think I can manage growing hydro for my first time...

Drip is the worst hydro system gorwthwise. There isnt much active airflow in the roots. Only water flows down into the substrate. E&F has the air exchanged every time it floods and drains, bubbler has bubbles going up past the roots, and aero has roots susspended in air with mist wetting the roots.

Getting 1 lb off a 400w is really good, only possible with an experienced or well guided grower, good strains, and training or ScrOG. You should be happy with 4-7 oz. on your first grow, more as you get better, close to 12 possibly.

You're asking basic questions that you should already know before starting out. The first time I tried to grow pot it went pretty bad because I didn't know what I was doing. Then I read everything I could find, started over, and it went perfect.

Have fun.
