Chantrelle cultivation

Hi I live in the northwest and I am interested in cultivating chantrelle and/or shittake mushrooms, or any other edible mushrooms. I'm wondering if there is any online guides to growing edible/medicinal mushrooms...The only thing I have been able to find is hundreds of guides to our cute little cubies. thanks alot!

Chanterelles have been cultivated experimentally, but it is very difficult because they are intimately associated with the roots of certain trees, e.g. birch. It could take several years.

Shiitake (Lentinus edulis) are much easier to grow either on logs or sawdust. You can buy kits from www.fungi.com.

Attached is a photo of shiitake growing on Alder logs which I inoculated last year. The logs are fruiting very well after spring rainfall.
