Jar temp. Q

Would somebody please tell me what the best way is to incubate your jars, or even what works for you. I'm real confused on what temp the jars should be at. I've heard 80* is optimal, but some people say 84-89*, i've also heard cool is okay-but too oht is not. Also, every TEK or book i've read just vaguely says to put them in some mysterious dark place, a drawer or what have you. On the other hand all i hear people talk about is "incubating" the jars. I haven't heard much on any methods, and it'd be real cool if someone could give me a pointer.

Next to the water heater works.. my friend had 24 jars next to the water heater and the temperature ranged from 79-87°F, averaging 84°F. Fast colonization.. 17-18 days to pinning. He'll move it if it gets to 90°F because he's heard temps in the jar are higher.

Mine stay at 78 -82, have had great luck in that range.
I've got nicotine stains on my fingers.
I've got a silver spoon on a chain.

My incubator is a sterilite with water to the level of the grain in my jars heated with a 75w submersible aquarium heater and circulated with a submersible terrarium pump to keep water temp even throughout. I get 85 degrees +/- 1.5 deg.
An angled drip shield attached to the lid could be a nice addition too, but I just put a foil tent over the tops of the jars to keep them dry.
Total cost about $40.

I have to admit that i'm a newbie at this, but I currently use my drawers under my water bed. This works execlent because I can regualte the temp with the water bed heater. I set my heater to 30C which is 86F. I have rapid colonization on all jars incubated this way. If you have a water bed w/drawers I would defianatly use it!

The optimal temperature depends on the type of mushroom
that you are growing. I will assume that you are growing
Psilocybe Cubensis. If so, then you want a temperature
of 84 to 86 F and a relative humidity of 90% during the
spawn run. As you get colder or hotter, the growth slows
down. I don't have a reference for how cold Cubensis
mycelium can survive down to. As long as you don't freeze
it, the mycelium should be fine on the cold end. If you
go above 106 F. you will kill the mycelium. Also, mycelium
exotherms (gives off heat) while growing. If you have a
lot of jars together they can produce enough heat to kill
themselves.
