Drying

I was wondering which was a better method for drying mushrooms.
-useing a dehydrator
or
-letting them air dry

If there are any better methods I am open for opinions.

I've never used a dehydrator and air drying isn't always a good idea.

A dehydrator that uses heat will drop potency drastically in the shrooms.
Air drying them will expose them to excess amounts of 02 oxydizing the alkaloids, also dropping potency.

Try using a dessicant, then placing in an air tight container full of C02.

I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it. :wink:

So you are saying that fan drying reduces potency?

Why does everyone seem to fan dry around here then?

Its easier to fan dry.  Fan drying is quicker than just letting them sit out and dry on their own so potency isn't too drastically lowered.  If you have a good amount of shrooms the loss of potency becomes irrelevant.

But some people like to see as little loss as possible and will go as far as possible to prevent it.

I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it. :wink:
