Do they always grow on wood chips? Is bark considered wood chips? What kind of trees do they like to be around? Any specific plants they like? I was at ilahee state park, looking around for about 5 hours today.. Lots of pine tree's and fir's

They grow on ALDER chips mostly. Bark is not wood chips. They like the kinds of plants/trees which will do a good job of providing moisture retention and shade.
At least that's what I've heard..

The best cyan environment is wherever wood chips are used to control weed infestation....around shrubs and trees in parks from Vancouver BC to the bay area.

I found a bunch today under hazelnut trees that have a light coloured bark mulch around them. (alder maybe , but its light whatever it is)
I also noticed while picking they sometimes were in a circle around the trees and sometimes they were inbetween, but I belive that every time the substrate they were growing off was either hazelnut shells or mulch, I dont think they work with or against the trees, as some mushrooms do.
I would also love to know what the snake-ish little vine like plants were growing in this place as a mix of chips and this plants , seems to be the hot spot, at least at the farm I was at.
I hope this helps, I have been looking for Cyans since I was 16, 7 years later, today, I found some.
Peace.

but the question is, when do the rhodies flower? cause if they flower in some other season besides fall i dont see how cyans would grow under them.

Stay out of the forest, check you local parks(checkout the parks department's Website), Walk around Buisnesses or malls, ect. Basicly your looking for Shady areas(bushes/shrubbs) surrounded by white or light brown mulch. G/L By the way, what area are you are you looking for theses?(Wa/Or/BC)

If you're looking to buy Alder chips, try looking in stores that sell the "little chief" meat/jerky smoker made by Luhr Jenson (Most stores that sell fishing/hunting/camping items stock the smoker and accessories. One accessory they sell is a bag of alder chips used to give meat an 'alderwood smoke" flavor. I'm fairly sure there are no harmful additives since the chips are used with food items...

I found a new batch the other day it was growing on chips underneath a rosemary plant which i lady placed there, but pine cones were placed above the soil and I started picking the cyans and some were connected to the pinecones surprisingly. The lady came out of her house and asked me what i was doing and i explained i was doing a project on a Species of mushrooms and she even tried explaining how to sporeprint breaking of a cap of one of my cyans. It was funny cause I think I'm going to see her everytime i head to that batch maybe she'll figure it out...Nice lady tho
