PORTSMOUTH, N.H. - Betty Hill, whose tale of being abducted by aliens launched her to fame and became the subject of a best-selling book and television movie, has died. She was 85.
Hill died at her home Sunday after a battle with lung cancer.
Hill claimed that she and her husband, Barney, were abducted by extraterrestrials in New Hampshire's White Mountains on a trip home from Canada in 1961.
The Hills were puzzled when they arrived home and noticed Betty's torn and stained dress, Barney's scuffed shoes, shiny spots on their car, stopped watches and no memory of two hours of the drive.
Under hypnosis three years later, they recounted being kidnapped and examined by aliens.
The couple gained international notoriety after going public with their story, traveling across the country to give speeches and making numerous television and radio appearances.
I found this quote from Betty to be curious:
Too many people with "flaky ideas, fantasies and imaginations" were making UFO and abduction reports, she told The Associated Press in a 1991 interview.
Hill retired from UFO lecturing in her 70s and complained that the quest for knowledge about extraterrestrials had become tainted with commercialism.
This from a woman who wrote a book, lectured for $$$ and had a movie deal.

HAve you ever heard of a book called "The White Mountains"? Where aliens come down and start controlling people with "caps" on their heads? ITs a REALLY good series. Wonderful author.

She's completely correct in what she is saying. There is no irony in those words as of course if you had been abducted by aliens you would tell the entire world through any media possible, this is a 100% human response and also the biggest error because we may now question credibilty.
THOSE ARE THE WORDS OF AN HONEST LADY.
She has looked for more info because she has experienced something first hand.
The problem being the data available is a compelation of real/hoax and misinformation. Which is certainly why most people have disregarded the entire phenomena.
It becomes a personal quest for the truth. Like taking shrooms, seeing a UFO close up is a knock to the head!

Maybe she wrote the book for the sole intent of sharing her expereince.
Lectured for the discussion of this knowledge.
And the money was a bonus, like winning the lottery and being the one out of millions abducted.
I'm not saying I believe her, I've never seen a UFO or anything supporting their existence.
But I also don't believe she was necessarily delusional or a liar.
Who knows...

If I have seen unidentified objects and have remained unaffected.
Not sure what you mean, by "up close", but if the object was close enough, it would easily be idenitifiable.

terror is based on the unknown...look at one of the oldest fears, darkness.
that is also the basis of most hatred of "the others" (cant recall who dubs anything that is not american middle aged white males as the others)
