America's shroom laws are very unenlightened.

I'm curious to know why they are illegal, too. If used responsibly they are much less harmful, at least physically, than alcohol or tobacco. They're not addictive, and as far as I know it's very hard to have a fatal overdose.

There has to be a reason for it, besides the retarded government hypothesis.. right? Why doesn't the government want people eating shrooms? What do they have to gain by keeping them illegal?

Something about these laws smells awfully fishy to me.

The government doesn't want anyone doing any drugs, apart from the depressing crappy ones that they can make shit loads of money off without overly reducing our willingness to work like mindless automatons for 1/2 (or more) of the waking hours of the better years of our lives.. IE. the ones that tend to be abused regularly (lucratively) and if they tend to kill us off at around retirement age, all the better.

Having said that, shrooms are not 'really' illegal here. But lo and behold they have recently imposed VAT on their commercial sale. And I'm convinced some proper legislation will be coming along soon.

wow.. what a depressingly bleak post.

I don't see how shrooms would 'reduce our willingness to work'. At least not in my own personal experience. Pot makes people lazy, but the penalties for it are way less harsh than those for shrooms in most countries.

Well aye, but tenuously I could imply that shrooms promote an increase in free thought, and could create changes in people causing deviations from the norm. Look at all the Hippies soaking themselves in LSD a few decades ago. Probably not good for your group of statistics.

Psilocybin and LSD are grouped into class A, along with heroin and cocaine, truly nasty drugs.. Does that really make any sense? No.

At the very least even I could not argue the psyche's are the kind of substance the govt could openly allow and cash in on. Making them fairly useless if not entirely harmful, politically speaking.

My theory goes along with yours:

Entheogens do not make people into good little worker bees.

Therefore, they are illegal.

That reason is not in the books but I suspect it has something to do with the laws.
