This idea has been very intriguing to me a lot, lately. I remember you mentioning a diet comprised mostly of the fruits of plants a few months ago. Is this really a healthy diet?

No. Even being a vegan is pretty unhealthy. Humans need animal proteins and B vitamins that only come from animals. That is why I am only a vegetarian.

that fish story's nothing man.

This summer I was walking down the street with some friends in a town with an extreme squirrel population, when I saw a caffufle up ahead. The scene was three dead baby squirrels lying on the ground, two in the road one on the sidewalk, and a big squirrel eating the one on the sidewalk. We spooked the killer a bit, so he jumped off the one he was cannibalizing and looked at us, no doubt sizing us up. It was here we noticed the two squirrels in the road moving a little. They were alive but hardly mobile.

With this I theorized that the big squirrel had found them all snuggled up in a nest in the tree above, and he through them all out. The fall must have liquidated their bone structure and broken their spines.

Back at ground zero, we continued to watch as mr. squirrel systematically killed the other two squirrels. This is not easy when you're armed as impotently as tiny rodent. No sharp teeth, no real claws, no understanding of vital points.. he had to slowly masticate through their bodies at random. It took a long time. Every now and then a car would drive by and he would jump off the road and then back on the baby squirrel when the coast was clear. And the screams! Have you ever heard a baby squirrel scream? They scream, I'm serious. It's a sick, primordial yet squeaky howling noise.

After he killed them all, mr. squirrel went back to baby #1 and continued to gnaw on it. It was pretty disturbing, and it made me feel.. I don't know.. less reverence for all life. Like the other day a blue jay was following me in the woods making a lot of irritating noise so I tried to kill him. I came pretty close with a few rocks.. I wouldn't have done that without the example from the squirrel.

Plants are living beings too. Not too many holier-than-thou vegetarians realize this.
I think they are probably aware. And most vegetarians I meat, including myself, mostly just don't want to chow down on disgustingly unhealthy animals fed shit and rotting meat all the while jacked on steroids and whatever crazy medications the "farmers" deem appropriate.

only partly true. Humans need COMPLETE proteins. Example, beef is a complete protein. Rice is an incomplete protien. beans are incomplete as well. combine beans and rice and the incomplete proteins complete each other.
vitamins can be obtained from dietary suppliments, i.e. PILLS!!! I eat pills like kandy

A fruit diet can be good for a short-term cleansing (days to weeks), but the acids may weaken the enamel on your teeth and may not provide all the necesary nutrients.

However, I knew of one man who lived soley on a glass of fresh orange juice for breakfast and a glass of fresh vegetable juices for dinner for over a year. He was about 6' and 130 pounds. He was amazingly strong and had the highest energy level of any human that I have ever met.

I have some fish, and am becoming more and more of a fish hobbyist, and I certainly care about my fish. It's like a mini-ecosystem in there, especially when you have a variety of fish filling different roles in the society, basically having a balance.... anyways, death happens. When you have two oscars and two fast-growing red belly pacus, death happens.

I used to have two black fin sharks... they *mysteriously* died. I had a yellow cichlid, and he went a couple of weeks with no problems, so I got a second cichlid, so he would have a pair... the oscars killed him. Didn't even attempt to eat him, just killed him. I figured that it was because it was too small, and so I got a bigger one (and also got some feeder fish, ja, feeder fish, in order to distract the oscars while I put it in). Woke up the next morning, dead cichlid.

And THEN they killed my first cichlid. We just moved, and I had my little pacu die when he got some sort of disease... treating the water didn't help him. Soon after, the oscars killed two of my three tinfoil barbs (small fish, but fast, which is why they survived for so long). I didn't have to worry about cleaning them up, though, because the pacus are now big enough that they ate them after the oscars killed them. :smirk:

Anyways, one of the first things I learned when I started with fish is that death happens, often times gruesomely (like a half-eaten cichlid floating around the tank). One can't be attached to the fish living, or anything or anyone else, for that matter. It isn't because one doesn't appreciate the value of life (at least with myself, perhaps this person just doesn't understand the value of life ), it is because with life comes death. Everything is impermanent.

When it comes to animal nature, our preconceived notions on what is "right" or "wrong" (*laughes at the notion of such in any context*) do not apply, and it serves no point to hold onto them and perceive through them. Animals do not think "logically", they act as they act.

You mention Zen, and say that it is this cycle of destruction that creates so much pain and suffering, but I propose that it is not so. It is not implied. Life is an endless cycle of creation and destruction, and it is attachment to this that produces pain and suffering, no the cycles themselves. Animals are basically perfect examples of Zen, from what I understand, the fact that they kill each other "gruesomely" does not negate this. Please explain to me how it does.

To quote the Tao Te Ching "Heaven and earth are not humane, they regard all beings as straw dogs. Sages are not humane, they see all people as straw dogs."

Ahhh, I can't wait until I get two fifty gallon aquariums and a ninety gallon aquarium... one for the oscars, one for a marine setup, and the other for a cichlid tank.... the first room in our house is pretty big, more long than deep, and it is going to be the fish/plant room, perfect for meditation and everything....

:headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :satansmoking:
Peace. :mushroom2:
