question from newbie

i am new at this...and i have some contamination questions...first i have to give a little background...someone gave me 4 pint-sized jars already inoculated w/ p. cubensis and some extra spore syringes...by the time i got them, they were already well on their way...however, there has been little to no growth for about 3 weeks...and the mycelium is almost to the bottom of all the jars...because of this long waiting period i decided to experiment and i opened up one of the jars...from the bottom of the jar, a disgusting stench emanated...but it didn't actually look like something else was there...i ripped off the stinky parts and put it in a pop bottle birthing chamber, just in case there's still a chance for survival/safety...but i thought i would get the opinions of "professionals" first so i don't end up wasting my time on shrooms that may or may not make me sick...any help will be appreciated...also, since the other jars seem to show the same growth characteristics, should i also assume they are contaminated(if the first one really is)?

If they smell nothing at all like mushrooms then they probably should be thrown out with the trash!

Since vektor may not know what mushrooms smell like, pitch it if you smell anything fermenting, going sour or just nasty. also watch for any sweet smells like bananas, this can indicate early fermentation. normal jars have very little smell to them.
