F?tish: new electric sports car
    #3195593 -

Looks pretty sweet IMHO(although I think it looks a bit like a VX220):

Venturi F?tish

From their press kit (apparently this has an ipod built-in too):
Quote:
THE SPORTS CAR OF THE FUTURE, TODAY

Presented as a World Premiere at the 2004 Paris Motor Show, the Venturi F?tish is the first production electric sports car in automobile history.
F?tish demonstrates, with ease, that it is possible to make today what the big automobile manufacturers are only proposing 20 years from now.

To reach this ambitious goal, Venturi have surpassed many current beliefs.

Where public opinion considers an electric vehicle to be ugly, F?tish is the first electric car to be beautiful and desirable. Where public opinion believes that an electric car lacks performance, F?tish offers a remarkable acceleration and a maximum speed of 170 Km/h, well above the maximum speed limit.
Finally, where electric cars are thought to seriously lack autonomy, the F?tish offers 350 Km of autonomy and a rapid battery recharge (with 80 Amps) of 1,6 Km a minute or 10 minutes recharge for every 16 Km, easily covering the needs of daily urban transport.

Under the technical direction of G?rard Ducarouge, chief engineer of the project, F?tish has been conceived to be an electric vehicle with absolutely no compromise on batteries and using the best state of the art technology available world-wide, regardless of price.
With the engine ideally positioned in rear central position and a monocoque carbon chassis, the overall architecture of the Venturi is comparable to that of a racing car. The roadholding is an evolution, even with regard to the Venturi Atlantique 300, already well renowned for its excellent roadholding .
The vehicle attains a record light weight of 750 Kg without and 1100 Kg with batteries.
...
Driving a F?tish
Driving a Venturi F?tish is an entirely new experience, that of driving the car of the future !

Equipped with a linear torque engine, 100% available on ignition, achieving 14,000rpm and adjustable engine braking - have you ever driven such a roadster ?

With a 180Kw engine, F?tish offers a unique driving sensation: accelerating from 0 to 100Km/h in less than 5 seconds, demonstrating that its electric propulsion engine indeed supersedes many petrol engines over 330Hp.
...
Assembled by hand and made to order, F?tish is already available for sale : a trendsetting concept, at a price of ?540,000 VAT included.

The above is an extract from my fictional novel, "The random postings of Edame".

In the beginning was the word. And man could not handle the word, and the hearing of the word, and he asked God to take away his ears so that he might live in peace without having to hear words which might upset his equinamity or corrupt the unblemished purity of his conscience.

And God, hearing this desperate plea from His creation, wrinkled His mighty brow for a moment and then leaned down toward man, beckoning that he should come close so as to hear all that was about to be revealed to him.

"Fuck you," He whispered, and frowned upon the pathetic supplicant before retreating to His heavens.

Sweet looking ride; however, most electric car proponents do not realize that these cars are generally NOT cleaner (depending on region/counrty) than gasoline engines as much of the world's electricity still comes from coal-fired plants.

Pollution is still pollution whether it comes from a tail pipe or from a power plant.

The proof is in the pudding.

wow, that's awesome

The important thing is not to stop questioning. Curiosity has its own reason for existing. One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity, of life, of the marvelous structure of reality. It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend a little of this mystery every day. Never lose a holy curiosity. ~ Albert Einstein

That's a good point.

But is there a large comparable difference between say,
a) pollution by x number of cars fueled by gasoline
b) pollution by coal power plant generating electricity for the same x number of electric cars

Wouldn't the coal be burning regardless of if 10,000 people bought electric cars? Or do you think the pollution output from the coal-fired plant would grow?
If not, then that would mean less pollution overall than if those 10,000 people bought gas-powered cars.

Thanks Swami, never thought of it that way

But starting the shift to electric cars now means we (the Earth) will have a head start when the oil really starts to run out and the move to cleaner, renewable sources of energy becomes mandatory.

Republican Values:

1) You can't get married to your spouse who is the same sex as you.
2) You can't have an abortion no matter how much you don't want a child.
3) You can't have a certain plant in your possession or you'll get locked up with a rapist and a murderer.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Coal is a mcuh dirtier and more inneficient way of energy production. Only around 1/3 of the thermal energy created by burning coal is turned into electricity and then on its way to homes through power lines it loses 50% or so of the original amount of electricity created. Since gas powered cars only have one step between production of energy and use of energy it is much more efficient. This however leaves out refinement and what not. Either way is very inneficient so neither is gonna save the planet, or even have satisfactory enrgy use results in the long run. So either way we're screwed  :frown:
