A couple questions

I have a couple questions to ask.
1) What exactly is flax seed meal, and where do I get it?
2) Do I absolutely need a PC for using finch seed substrate?
3) Does excessive lighting cause fruits to grow tall and skinny?
4) Is blueing a sign of lost potency?
5) What exactly is steeping?
Thanks, this site rocks.

A couple of answers:
1. Flax seed meal is ground up flax seed; I don't know where to find the meal, but most health food/natural food stores sell flax seed- you can grind it up in a coffee grinder or blender.
2. Yes, you absolutely need a PC when using whole grain substrates. The only time boiling is Ok is when you use a flour/verm substrate. Now, you may get lucky once or twice with boiling whole grain substrates, but on the whole you will most likely get contams. Why take that risk, especially if you have a limited spore supply.
3. I don't know- my instinct tells me no, but that's really just a stab in the dark.
4. The blueing on shrooms is just bruising, it doesn't affect the potency. The blueing on cakes is a sign of dehydration.
5. Steeping is letting your grain soak in water that is just below the boiling point. (I think- that's what I've always done.)

thanks man, i have a casing that is blueing a little, can I just drop some water droplets on it. I was going to use finch seed for B+ but I really don't want to spend 60 bucks on a PC, will brf/verm work just as well, any tips?

If your casing is pinning or fruiting right now, don't add any water- it will damage your fruits and cause lots of aborts. If you are between flushes, you should go ahead and give it a good misting. The blue could also just be the psylocybin in the mycelium; it is normal for mycelium to have a blue tinit sometimes. You should still mist well between flushes though. I haven't worked with B+, but I don't imagine it would do badly on BRF/verm. You might want to grind up some flax seed and finch seed and add it to the BRF. I have also successfully used Alien's substrate without using a PC (even though it uses whole grain brown rice) but I was probably just lucky. I know how you feel about buying a pressure cooker, but if you go to ebay, you can find some really good deals. I got mine there for $5- it is a bit small (only fits 2 quart jars, or 8 half-pints) but it works well.
Good luck,

Just give indirect light for 8-10 hours a day...
Fruit body size can and will vary from flush to flush.
