Substrate texture

I am attempting my first grow and have prepared everything according to the PFtek. I am wondering what the substrate is supposed to feel like. The substrate I prepared consisted of 3cups water, 3 cups BRF, and 6 cups vermiculite and has a soft almost dry feel. Is it supposed to be moist?

no. it should be crumbly, light and airy and should have a damp feel. if you squeeze a handfull real hard, only a little water should come out.
