Frozen myc. = Death??
    #3212029 - 10/03/04 11:27 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

What temp does the myc die at? If there was ice on the top of the water used when cold shocking, would it be ok? Thanks a lot...happy growin'

It will most likely be okay if it wasn't exposed to sub freezing temperatures... It might halt growth for a few days, but I wouldn't give up on them unless they stopped doing anything for over a week.

Just put them back in the terrarium at the proper temparature (73-80 or so, I've had best luck at the hotter and more humid climates (80*F & 100% Humidity). They should do their thing naturally, and you'll find out if they aren't working or not within a couple of weeks.

As long as it was just a layer of ice over the top of the water, I bet it should be fine, unless mycelium dies at temperatures near freezing.

One of the modifications in PF tek was cold shocking with ice pak sitting in the terrarium. So, have hope!

Hey, dont worry at all, I did the same thing except mine was completley frozen in a huge chunk of ice. But I just thored it out and rolled it in verm then put it with the other cakes and at the moment it is the cake with the most pins on it!! some of the other cakes havent even started pinning yet and this one has a few nicely sized mushrooms coming out of it and as I mentioned tons of pins. I cold shocked it for 24 hours, so I'd say it was frozen for a good 6 hours. Hope you get as much good luck as I did.

Had ice at the top of mine as well on a few casing after dunk (back of fridge bottom shelf very cold. Half the top of the water was frozen. It has gone on through a flush another dunk and is working on another flush. You should be cool.

Yea that happens to me all the time because my mini fridge is a lil biatch and my tub of water will tend to get all iced if i leave it in there for 12-15+ hours, I haven't lost any cakes that way yet, and I have had to pull blocks of ice off them. I think the moral of the story is, if your cakes are healthy(or were), they can sorta save themselves. good luck!

i like to tap larger bottoms because they ripple better and its sorta mesmorizing
